Differences in model and paper space

Hey, 

 

I am working with a template and annotating in model space. I created a section view with a dotted line but when I go to paper space the dotted line turns to be a continued line. Can it be something with the scale? how can I fix it? I see also a similar problem with the center lines, the dotted lines are much bigger in paper space than in model space. 

 

I tried to annotate in paper space but the lines in the section views will not show as dotted lines.

At first: Set PSLTSCALE to 1. 

If you don't see after a Regenall not the desired result, change the value of LTSCALE. (For a more detailed help please post an example dwg).

I would make a copy of the dotted line in model space, next to the original.  Then I would go to the layout and select into the viewport.  Select the copy of the line and use chspace command.  Now that the line is in paper space, choose a new line type scale the looks right to you. Now that you know the scale you want , go back and set that layer's global line type scale or mass edit with quick select and properties.

you mean the whole .dwg file?

Here is an example, in this file the dotted line is not as shown in model space. I have tried what you recommended without experiencing any changes.

Your line is to short to show its "structure" in the scaled layout view. If you extend the length of the line (for testing) you will see the structure in the paperspace too.

Yeah, now you see a dotted line in the Layout too, but this is not the recommended way. 

You used a line type which is defined as 

a line segment of 12 units long, then a space of 6 long and then the next line segment  including a dots in the middle of the space. Usually you want to see exact this line specification in the layout too. 

But in your down scaled Layout the line has only a length overall of about 14. So is no room to show its dotted specification. And each drawing standard says: if a line is too short to show its specification it is drawn as a (short) continuous line. That means, your origin layout would be correct. (above I showed only a possibility to show in the layout the same as you see in the model space, but the line type specification is too small scaled).

I know I am late to the party, but, I find that when I am drawing in millimeters on an imperial (inch) titleblock and inch-based paper size, I set the following, beginning with:

 

LTSCALE = 25.4

PSLTSCALE =0

The viewport scale will be some multiple of 25.4.

     Example: 1:25.4 is equivalent to 1:1 due to the scale factor where 1 inch = 25.4 mm. Other choices would be 1:50.8 (1:2), 1:101.6 (1:4) and so on.

 

This has worked well with my drafting students.
