Hi Guys,

 

I am trying to create a new linetype to speed up my drafting but I am not sure if what I need to achieve is possible.

 

I would like to create a linetype that is effectively a timber stud with batt insulation. As I draw the line the studs would be set at 600mm centres and the insulation would be between and at the ends of the line. I have successfully created the linetype with the studs, however I cannot get the batt insulation to be included? Is this something that is possible or am I asking too much?

 

If the above option isn't possible, I have tried to create the linetype using the studs only at 600mm centres with a wipeout included. However when I insert the shape created from the wipeout and stud the wipeout is not there, is this also not possible?

I don't think defining a linetype will be a fruitful way to approach this.  A wipeout can't be part of a Shape definition.  It can be part of a Block, but that can't be part of a linetype definition.

 

You could make a linetype involving Shapes for both studs and insulation, and perhaps achieve something similar to this:

You could even include the inner face of wall surface materials [assuming the thickness of those would vary, so the outer side should not be part of the definition].  But such a thing can only operate in complete cycles of the linetype definition, and any excess length in the total length of a Line using it would be filled out with plain continuous-line bits [shown at the ends above, varying in length depending on how the overall length relates to a multiple of the linetype definition cycle].  It would not be possible to vary the length of the insulation part at the ends with different end stud spacings to suit different lengths of wall.

 

In addition, the parts within a linetype will all have the same color/lineweight/etc., so you couldn't have [for example, what I would always prefer graphically] the stud outlines heavier than the X's in them or than the insulation squiggles, unless the shape for the stud was defined with a double outline or something.

Thanks for getting back to me, I have ended up creating a timber stud block with wipeout, using path array to space the blocks, then drawing my insulation batt line below. 

 

It isn't what I was hoping for but it is definitely sped up my drawing process.
