DIALOG BOXES NOT SHOWING UP ANYMORE

Yesterday I opened a customer's drawing and now none of my dialog boxes are working.  Also, when I have an object selected and hit the delete key nothing happens, don't know if that is related or not.

I checked ATTDIA, CMDDIA and FILEDIA and they are all set to "1".  Is there something "deeper" in AutoCAD that could cause this?

One more thing; my right-click doesn't do what it's supposed to do anymore either.  I checked the settings and they are all the way I want it to act, but it isn't cooperating.  Again, I have no idea if this is related to the dialog box issue or if it is something else altogether.  What I do know is that it all started when I opened the customer's drawing.

Thanks.

What is PICKFIRST set to?  If 0 set it to 1.

HI @Anonymous,

It does indeed sound like you need to turn PICKFIRST on.  Also make sure that none of your windows are "off screen" by using ALT-TAB and the keyboard arrow keys to move a window.

If this doesn't fix the problems then please update your post as I am happy to help you fix the issue.

Does the problem go away if you open a different drawing or start a New drawing?

Could you upload the file? You could delete all the lines and text and rename it if confidentiality is an issue.

There used to be an issue where ACAD.LSP gets loaded once per Acad session or everytime a drawing is opened. The SETVAR is ACADLSPASDOC. If it is set to 0 then opening a drawing will bring in all the SETVARS for that drawing instead of your own. The symptoms are similar.

I've been doing this since 1985, and I believe this is the first time I've heard of "pickfirst" variable.

That was it.  I appreciate the quick replies.  Thanks.

I had a Microsoft update on my PC yesterday and ever since the Insert Block option dialog window

box will not appear? Also it wont allow me to insert any underlays.

Any ideas?

When the Open Dialog box is not appearing and autocad command prompt is frozen trying to open a file, and you already tried filedia -> 1

And you tried Alt TAB

And there is still no Dialog Box...

You can try:

Going to:

Options -> Profiles -> Highlight your Profile having problems and click "Reset" on the right at the bottom of the list. This will reset your User Interface a bit so be careful and don't use this if you are not sure you want to give it a try.

Just trying to help people that have tried everything else.

Hope this might help someone.

Hi,

"When the Open Dialog box is not appearing and autocad command prompt is frozen trying to open a file"

That mean: Dialog is open (but outside your visible area)

Try this:

[Win]+[Shift]+[<-]  or [->]  (left or right arrow key)
