Detail View unable to use

i have a 2d model. i have layouts created. i want to add a detail view i go to view detail and get message unable to preform action this was created with newer version.  this is model was created in 2017 i am usesing 2017...

Do you mean that?

...if so then then I have a bit problems understanding you. This command needs a 3D-model and from that with command _VIEWBASE generated view-objects from your 3D-model.

If you mean anything else with "add detail view" then please describe what command you are using to get that done (maybe a screenrecording helps us to understand better what you have, >>>free download here<<<). If you can show us the drawing, it would be great!

Which product exactly (plain AutoCAD or a vertical product based on AutoCAD like AutoCAD Architecture, ...) and which service pack (start command _ABOUT on both system and compare the exact product version).
