Date Stamp turns into strange symbol on publish

So my date looks normal in the model and paper space.  When I go to publish it, it doesn't look right.  It transforms into this weird triangle shape.

It was working fine for a long time and I hadn't changed any settings.  

I've tried comparing my settings to my co-workers and they seem to be identical, but theirs are publishing fine.

Any suggestions? Thank you

It turns out that background publishing was causing the issue.  I turned it off and now it publishes correctly.
