Customize Forward/Back Mouse Buttons in CUI?

I saw a post recently requesting mouse button customization, although it's not showing up when I search for it.  I've always used Logitech's SetPoint software for this, but it stopped working after a forced Windows update.  After a day of troubleshooting, I've given up on trying to find a way to fix it. Logitech doesn't have any tech support and their newer softwares don't support my mouse.

It appears the mouse buttons could be customized in the CUI, but I don't see a clear way to do that.  I want the Forward button to be F3 (osnap) and the Back button to be F8 (ortho).  After a day of losing that functionality, I don't know how anyone stays productive in this program.  ๐Ÿ˜‚  Would also be nice to get my Left Wheel Tilt and Right Wheel Tilt to be Pan, since pushing down the middle button is a 1/4 shot of working (either I don't push hard enough or it scrolls).  Does anyone know if any of this customization is possible through the CUI and, if so, how to set it up?

I'm using the Mouse Manager from this link to make my Microsoft Intellimouse work for Cancel and F8 (ortho)

because Microsoft quit updating mouse driver for their own product.

Give it a try.

Mouse buttons are now controlled in your mouse driver (if you have now that does more that the basics): CUI is not relevant anymore for that level of customization, sorry.

Thanks, @Patchy
The X-Mouse Button Control app seems like it might have more customization options for all my buttons than the Mouse Manager app you're using.  Have you tried these other ones listed?

I'm going to look into this when I get past my current deadline because newer Logitech mice (compatible with Logitech Options) don't have the three extra buttons I use all the time.  I'll update this thread next week.

In the meantime, a new Logitech mouse arrived this morning that is compatible with their newer software (which does install) and I was able to customize those buttons.

As I mentioned, the vendor software/driver was broken in the latest forced Windows update, so that wasn't an option for me.  I wasn't aware I could use 3rd party drivers to control what I thought was proprietary hardware, but I'm going to look into that option soon.

If the CUI mouse controls don't work anymore, why are they still included in the CUI?

I have tried the other one but it has too many options and I uninstalled it.
I only need two functions for side buttons and it still works.

If I may "speak without filters" with your permission...

It is a noob trap, many find it, think it does so much, they go on and on about how it "should do" what they think it might do, and after days/weeks/months realize the entries do nothing they want and move ion. Then the next person some time later starts it all over again ๐Ÿ™‚

For the functions/ability to work, your mouse driver has to assign and call those buttons exactly as CUI shows: its driver may also need to have a hook into AutoCAD to work if this is a puck-type device like

https://www.ebay.com/itm/234225888166 with a WINTAB driver.

IMHO that category should have been moved to the LEGACY section decades ago.

I look forward to your conclusions and likely compromises that will honestly just be, well, "meh" at best.

**Filters back on**

Best of luck with it.

I use X-Mouse for various custom commands and overrides on my MMO mouse that I use for AutoCAD and Advance Steel. Works really well.

X-Mouse Button Control solves the original post query, although I'm still stuck in limbo with getting back to where I was before this update (rolling back the update didn't fix it).

โ— I have an old mouse with Logitech software (SetPoint) that worked perfectly before the forced Windows update and won't reinstall.

โ— The same old mouse can partially be programmed using X-Mouse Button Control.  I can program the forward/back buttons in AutoCAD and make some other customizations, but the Left Tilt and Right Tilt don't program correctly to the middle mouse button for panning so that kills that app outright for me.  And X-Mouse Button Control doesn't recognize the other buttons I need on the old mouse which make it better than all the newer Logitech offerings.

โ— I have a new mouse with newer Logitech software (Logitech Options), but that software has a known, years-long and apparently unfixable bug where it forgets your customizations (changing them to some other random function you never set).  This mouse also doesn't have the extra, extremely useful three buttons my old mouse had.

Anyway, I'll have to restore Windows to an (unfortunately) old system image and block the Windows update, or figure something else out.  This serves as a reminder to create system images regularly.  Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

For anyone finding this thread in the future, I'm now using the Logitech M720 Triathlon with the even newer Logitech software (Logi Options+, also called Logitech Options+ and not to be confused with the inferior Logitech Options software).

Edit: spoke to soon. Like it's predecessor, Logi Options+ consistently forgets your customizations until you switch to the Logi Options+ app to give it focus and then go back to what you were doing.
