Cursor and crosshair dissapears

WHY does the crosshair and cursor disappear, in view ports and working area but still display on the ribbons and toolbars.

Yet another bug in the program that AUTODESK seems to not care that it has been an issue for at least the past 4-5 years in the numbered releases, it might even be 10 years.

You see the problem? my smart app that lives here, says it's up to date - maybe it's cause I used Civil3D and don't use AutoCAD.  I know we used to have to have both installed but as I've understood it, for the last few years, it's a standalone program

latest update available on AutoDesk's own website is 2024.

you can act high and mighty if you want but if CAD's user interface is jacked, someone should address it.

When things aren't working, I look for updates and if the app and website say I'm up to date then why would I look further ??

all updates installed and now CAD crashes but at least my crosshairs are there now - guess then next normal step is for Autodesk to tell me to reset my settings which never works and then to do a clean install which rarely helps but lets waste more time

no idea why any of these are marked as "solutions" they don't work.

What our office has stumbled on which has nothing to do with having updates installed, etc is to get into floating modelspace and click this plus sign, don't do anything with the popup, just click back in the viewport and you're good to go.  Its a glitch and should be fixed and no amount of updating matters

this is an AutoDesk problem and it's still happening in 2024 with a brand new machine

I don't know who at AutoDesk likes to post these "solutions" from 2020 that don't work - it's quite honestly irritating.

What DOES work for me, most times is to click the plus sign inside within floating model space of the viewport controls.

there's absolutely no explanation for why this works but if my crosshairs disappear, this normally brings them back

We have hundreds of designers using AUTOCAD with different setups; this is a widespread bug.

1) Open a support case with Autodesk if you are on subscription to seek out Autodesk Support's help:

Don't listen to @pendean and these other guys that think it's a hardware issue. They have no idea what they're talking about. It's an AutoCAD issue. You're right that it's been ongoing for a decade at least. Yet, AUTODESK seems unable or doesn't care to get to the bottom of it. I'm commenting nearly 5 years after this post and it happened to me today. If you pull up the myriad of odd temporary fixes, usually one of them will do the trick. If nothing else works, you can always close and re-open the drawing/program, and that should do the trick.

OK, so I have isolated one cause of the cursor disappearing. I'm just not quite sure what to do about it, and I suspect many people will be caught by this problem.

I have seen this across MAC and Windows 10 platforms, on Autocad 2024 Mechanical and Autocad 2024 3D.

When using an absolute coordinate system, such as would be the case for working on dimensions of mm and referencing a location in Queensland Australia, all objects are a substantial distance from the origin (you know, like 7000000000mm).

When I try to zoom in too close the who system fails, cursor disappears, relative locations of solids and other shapes fall apart.

The solution for me is to move the geometry that I'm working on back to the origin, then when I'm finished I move it back to the correct global position. NB. Changing to metres sort of works but not completely.

Question is, are others seeing this? and can Autodesk fix this please?

I have attached a typical file. I invite anyone to look at the building columns in the model and watch your cursor disappear as you zoom in on the base of the building columns.

Nothing to do with operating system, video card, damaged file... It seems that the distance involved just exceeds Autocads capability?

Surely many people want to work this way?

AutoCAD has such limits in place sadly and always has, so yes, if that solution fixes it for you then you've hit a known program limitation decades old now.

OMG, my cursor weren't enabling me to pick anywhere when executing any command to draw, but F9 (snap on) helped me at least to pick and place cursor where I needed to. So simple yet overlooked step! Thank you~ Tuya

Just had the same issue and I was too zoomed in and I accidentally turned on snapping on grid mode and after turning it off cursor returned.

F9 is just a keyboard shortcut key to the "SNAPMODE" function. I sometimes "fat-finger" the F9 key when I press F8 "ORTHOMODE" without realizing it.
