Creating tool palettes

hi all,

I am creating an office tool pallet. So far, I have created samples to see if it works well in our company, and I am learning how to make it work on the go. So, I might be making a very basic mistake somewhere.

I created a palette with tabs and exported it to a network location, imported it onto another computer and it is working well so far.

My questions are:

Can a notification be seen on the other computers when the tool palette has been updated?

It doesn't seem to update automatically on the other computer. Am I doing something wrong, or does it need to be refreshed somehow?

Appreciate any help

@leticia.campanelli ,

If placing the Tool palettes on a Network, make sure to include it on the Option / Profile:

Hi,

1. New palettes and tools are importing the first time 1:1

2. From then, the ORDER and DISPLAY settings are controled by the user(profile)!

Adesk forgot, until now, to offer features and tools to handle and administrate toolpalettes well and easy, but there a options.

Search for: Autodesk University Tool Palettes

there a some publications which will help you to understand more about Tool Palettes.

what i did .. i created a tool palettes folder on our network drive ...got my I.T to make it a read only folder for everyone but myself so that you can be the only one to edit the palette, if you dont then anyone can alter the blocks and screw them up , if this is done correctly then the pallete users will have a lock symbol on the bottom of their tool pallete screen when they install it , you obv wont ... create and build your libary of block and store all your blocks etc in your tool palettes folder (i had individual drawings with blocks on for each palette tab and stored them all in one folder which i called my ''build folder''.... start building your tool palette tabs the way you want them to be and look by dragging the blocks from your drawings to your individual tabs...once completed you can then give the rest of the users the tool palettes by linking them to your ''build folder'' file via options/files/tool palette file locations.

massive tip : when altering anything on your tool palette tab in order for your users to see the palette tab the same way as you see it. i do a ctrl-A , Ctrl-C , Ctrl-X, Ctrl-V on the tab , basically you copying , deleting and pasting it back onto your tab , if you didnt do that then whatever change you made will go to the bottom of the screen for the other users ..this basically keeps everything in the order you want it to be.

and to answer your question if youre using the export / import method then after you have made the changes you would need to export and import the file again for the changes to take affect.. this is really a longer method to sharing tool palettes and from what i understand its only best if the users you are sharing with are not on your network drive. if you are all using the same network drive then the method explained above is a quicker method to share and update for all users.

Thanks Simon!!
I also have it on a network location. I still need to change to read-only, I am testing and only sharing with 1 other computer so far.
Do you re-export to the network location whenever you add something to the tab?
Should it automatically update on the other computer?

i dont use any import/export options .. i simply update any of my blocks on the drawings saved in the ''build folder'' and then delete the old block off my tool palette tab and reload it with the revised block , i'll do the ctrl A,Ctrl -C, Ctrl X , Ctrl-C again on that revised tab just to put it all back into order again ..then once you save and close your AutoCAD  and restart AutoCAD , the change will take effect for all other users provided that they also restart their AutoCAD after you have.

there's a great AutoCAD university video on Youtube worth watching ...Tool Palettes: Beyond the basics with Justin Johnson . give it a watch it explains alot
