Create a dwg using Google earth snippet via latitude and longitude

I am making some Civil drawings which should be done thru AutoCAD only.

Presently, I am taking snapshots from Google earth, saving it as .jpeg and then pasting the same into AutoCAd. Then drawing the lines & Blocks manually.

I need those drawings should come in AutoCAD with Labels for Building, dotted lines for road. Overall it should come as a simple 2D drawings with Blocks & Lines.

Thanks in Advance!

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I am not aware of a utility that will create the AutoCAD geometry for you based upon a Google Earth image.  Here is a utility (PlexEarth) I found on the Autodesk App Store which might help you work more efficiently with Google Earth.

Thanks John for the info.

Would you like me to raise a formal request thru my corporate id to enable Autodesk to do more research on this ??Will that help or there is no such solutions for this kind of activity.

We really want a 2D drawings that should be a replica image of Google earth snapshots, using lines & labels.

Why not just use the geolocation feature already built into autocad?

So what you are wanting is this: to put an image into autocad then have autocad trace over everything and do all the drawing for you?  Sorry but it can't do this and I doubt it ever will. The main reason is how can it know what you want traced and what you don't? The image is a raster image so it's going to trace every pixel that you can't even see. That and the image from google earth isn't 100% accurate. As in most of the building aren't going to have 90 degree corners. So instead of tracing rectangles, autocad will give you a bunch of parallelograms probably. When I trace over a google image I always need to adjust things slightly so my buildings are square. However I do agree this would be a great feature if it worked. The best you can find is maybe a program that will trace over a vector pdf. I think those programs are out there. I don't know any off the top of my head.

I've played with Illustrator and it can trace over raster images to cut things out. It is far from accurate enough to use in a building project though.

Hi @Anonymous,

You might consider using a product such as AutoCAD Map 3D and Raster Design to do some of this work as they will give you better feature set to handle such a process.

You are also welcome to contact the product team directly. If you have additional comments specific to the software or its functionality for future consideration, please use the Product Feedback page. How to provide feedback on Autodesk products goes into more detail.

Another great option is to participate in the AutoCAD Customer Council. This is an opportunity for our customers to partner with the AutoCAD development team to improve future releases of AutoCAD by giving continuous feedback on ideas, designs, and early builds.
In order to get involved email autocad.beta@autodesk.com or autocad.lt.council@autodesk.com
