Hello, I have received two separate files. one drawing file and one Tif (underlying map) for the drawing. I have used imageattach and included the image in a new drawing file. when I overlay the other file (drawing) it is not align with the map. I would like some help to be able to coordinately match these two files.

Thanks

Hi,

You might try to use command _ALIGN and see if that helps.

In case you have AutoCAD Map 3D or Autodesk Civil 3D please let us know that, there you can define geographic coordinate systems and transfer geometry from one CS to a different one.

Thanks Alfred.

I have asked our IT to install civil 3D. but I need to know what is the
coordinate system of each. I have already used Align to scale the tif image
to goodle earth. but when i overly the drawing it doesnt line up on the
tif.

Hi,

That is correct, you need to get in contact with the creator of that files to know the CS of each dataset.

May I ask the following questions:

  • As you use Google Earth images ... are they placed on real geographic coordinates? Or is the image simply inserted at 0,0,0?
  • Is your other dataset placed on geodatic coordinates? Or also at 0,0,0?

At least you need to know which of your dataset's is using correct coordinates (and units), without that every trial of _ALIGN (or when you have installed Civil 3D) you might try command _ADETRANSFORM or _ADERSHEET would not result in a new correct position of your data.

Hami,

Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.

"...I need to know what is the coordinate system of each."

If your Tiff is geo-referenced, the quickest way to find out is Lizardtech's free >>>GeoViewer<<<.GeoViewer_1.png
