Converting DWG to DGN

I have several AutoCAD generated drawings that are modeled in model space but title block is in paper space.  I need to convert these to Microstation (DGN) files.  When I follow instructions I've gathered from google, it appears to work except when it comes to the dimensions and the scaling.  The dimensions get all out of whack and they cannot be edited and the scaling appears to be incorrect.

I tried opening the drawing in AutoCAD and changing the paperspace to modelspace, but with the viewports, it is only moving one viewport and I can't select additional viewports.  I am unable to select all viewports at once also.

Any help with converting dwg files that include a paperspace title block with dimensioning and text, please advise.

Thank you,

BJ

Hi and Welcome to AutoCAD Forum,

Since we don't know your attempts ... try from AutoCAD DGNEXPORT command.

I followed the instructions for DGNEXPORT.  It seems to have worked but there are some text in colors that are difficult to see on the screen, like Yellow.  I have changed some of those colors to black.  When it comes to the dimension text, when I change it to black, the text changes from two lines to a single line.  I don't want the text layout to change, just the color and that is all I am changing so I don't know why the text is shifting.  If anyone can give me suggestion on that, I would be grateful.

I believe that Microstation can import DWG files. Can you have someone try that. You could also try going through a DXF file.

As far as the Layouts go. I've never heard of any success with multiple layouts.

Thank you everyone for suggestions on this issue.  I have had no real luck with converting a .dwg file that has the border in paper space into a .dgn file.  We have a workaround but it will take extra work to make these files usable. I will no longer be commenting on this subject and consider it a closed matter.

I am running AutoCAD 2026 Architecture in Germany and need to submit plans (which I made in dwg format) in DGN Format.

However, I seem to hot have any Seed Files to choose from (required when converting through the DGNEXPORT command).

Can someone send me any old seed templates so that I can download and save these locally?

Answered in a crosspost (in german) -> https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-produktfamilie-deutsches/dwg-zu-dgn-konvertieren-seed-datei-n...

Short:

Options Files, DGN mapping setup location -> set to

D:\users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\<yourversion>\Rxx.x\enu\support

and Acad will offer seeds in dgn export dialog.
