Connecting Lines in 3D

I'm attempting to make beams and columns. How do I make the lines one object. The beams have a notch in them and I am now trying to make it one object. It's been 12 years since I've used autocad and I'm a little rusty. Thanks

Mike

Try making the objects you have into a Region by typing 'REG' or 'REGION' in the command bar, then make them a Union by typing 'UNI' or 'UNION' into the command bar.  IT definitely works for 2D objects.  Should work for 3D but it could get funky.  (make sure the polylines are completely closed first)

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Without seeing your drawing I am guessing here but I think a simple JOIN command will let you make all of the  lines into a single object.

If you want to share your drawing I am happy to take a closer look.

Tried Join and it only joined certain segments not all. Tried Regen, no luck, tired union, no luck...

HI @Anonymous,

Do the endpoints of the lines actually exist in the same location? Try increasing the accuracy  in UNIS and then look at properties of each line. Make sure that the endpoints have the same x,y, anz locations. Can you share a sample file?

HI @Anonymous,

I exploded the lines you already had connected and then ran OVERKILL to remove duplicate lines.  Now when I use join I can select the desired lines and they connect just fine. However, you will see there are limitations to Join by the image:

So, I wonder if you would consider using 3D solids to make this geometry instead which would let you use UNION?

They are fairly easy to work with and would give you better visibility and control I think.

I made a quick video that shows how you can use a closed polyline to define your beam and then Presspull it into the proper thickness.

I hope this helps.
