Command Interrupt Not Working

Normally the ' (apostrophe) can interrupt a command to use another command. For example, while drawing a pline or 3dpoly, you can search for the next point (which might be obscured) by commencing a 3DOrbit mid-stream by pressing ' (apostrophe) first. My system has lost this function, it does not accept the ' (apostrophe) anymore.

Is there a toggle to turn this functionality on?

Is ' (apostrophe) an assigned hotkey, is it assigned by the user, or is it a reserved key?

Hi,

the character ' does not interrupt anything, it's just a prefix for a transparent command, e.g. when drawing a line and AutoCAD is asking for the next point you can use 'ZOOM to run the zoom command and then proceed with the line command. But this is how transparent commands are working, with a leading ' and this is only valid for some specific commands.

If you want to use orbit while you have a command active you don't need to start anything, just hold key <SHIFT> plus click and hold the middle mouse button and orbit is active. No key or command entering necessary at all.

Thanks for the response and you are correct, I just tried it and 'zoom works. I think the problem lays with my auto-fill not working. I used to type '3DO and it would autofill in 3Dorbit. I never noticed it was not auto-filling because I never looked at the command prompt, it was instinctive.

Hi,

>> I used to type '3DO

Have you tried my suggestion with <SHIFT> + <MiddleMouseButton> ?

Much faster 😉

I know you are right. I am a two-button mouser, might be easier to teach me the piano.

Hi,

Really no mouse-wheel?

In general I'm with you, I can't even touch a mouse when it has buttons all around. But 2 buttons and 1 wheel, that really should be the minimum, simply for ZOOM and PAN, would not be able to work without it. 😉

Yes.. two buttons and a wheel, it gets some serious scrolling.
By the way, any suggestions as to how I can get my acad.pgp alias file loading. I just put in the command:
(findfile "acad.pgp") and it responds "nil". This might be why my system is not recognising the alias 3DO and 3DORBIT.

"nil" means you might have a problem: try using ALIASEDIT command if you remembered to install Express Tools.
