AutoCAD 2020 Help with improving working of of a server using a VPN

I am not quiet sure, if this question belongs here, but I didnt know where else to ask, so here we go:

I am working in an Engineering Office with 6 draftsman, 5 of wich are using AutoCAD. Due to the current situation we have been doing homeoffice for some time now where half of us are at home, the other half is in the office. We usually save all our files on our Server and work of of that. We obviously have a VPN to access that server and it is definitely possible to work from home, it is quiet annoying however. Opening files takes a lot of time, especially if the internet speed at home isnt that fast or the file has a lot of big xRefs like a orthophoto.

Once a file is loaded all works fine, I am assuming once you opened it it is saved locally. If you switch between two drawings tho, it seems like it has to download it all again, wich takes time again. Some of my colleagues worked around this by copying the whole project folder locally on their hard drives including all xRefs and so on and copying them back to the server in the evening.

The Issue is, that this is very hard to coordinate if two or more people are working on the same project and we just keep the files on the server in these cases, as downloading them locally would take way to much coordination and the risk of overwriting somebody elses work in the evening is to big.

My question now is, if there is by any chance an option to have AutoCAD save all drawings you have opened to your local drive so that you dont have those long loading times when switching betwenn drawings in AutoCAD while the file is still on the Server and appears as "Read only" to others.

Aernatively does anybody have any other idea to help with this issue?

Thanks in advance to any help you might be able to give me!

Greetings

Paul

Nothing built-in does that automatically without user input. Sorry.
