Accepted solution

Hi,

Looks like you have grouped more than one group together and its become nested group. Try using the command "UNGROUP" and see if it works. If not try posting your file so that we can have a look.

[ESC]

[ESC]

Select ONLY "one" of the lines.

Now you see all 16 selected?

Ungroup works fine, but only for groups. RightClick, Groups-> Ungroup = Greyed out? -> isn't a Group

and Right Click -> Is "Block Editor" available?

Then it is a Blockreference.

Use it, start BlockEditor(command: BEDIT) Inside the BlockEditor, open your PropertiesPalette, scroll down, enable allow exploding

BSAVE

BCLOSE

try it again

Have you checked the LAYER? If it's locked, try unlocking it.

you can explode the block while Insert command .

Capture.PNG

also you can change all block behavior to be explode or not from BLOCK command ( select your block first ) .

The same issue with what?  Have you tried not only the accepted solution [using UNGROUP] but also evaluated for whether what you cannot Explode is a Block?  [Blocks can be defined to not allow Exploding, but you can fix that.]  Most importantly, what happens when you try Exploding or Ungrouping?  Post a small drawing file containing whatever you are having the issue with.

Layer is unlocked. Ungroup & explode still not working. I can add to the group but not separate it.

@steve_delabastide Look up PICKSTYLE variable in your program's HELP and turn if off. Is your group now ungrouped?

Also.. start LIST command (type it), select this GROUP and see what AutoCAD things it is at the commandline (that needs to be 5-10-15 lines tall for this example). PROPERTIES command, if you have that palette open, will also tell you what that ungrouped GROUP is. Share those results here.

Hi again, may I wild guess?

because that is the only logical explanation I see

1. You are really talking about Groups (the topic above was about blocks, just the title and description just used the wrong vocabulary)

2. Your statement "I can add to the group " is not correct, you mean you can create a new group!?

Thanks to pendeans "Also.. start LIST command ", which led me to a test and indirectly to the following assumptions:

3. You are talking about existing group only? Draw two new circles, group them and ungroups works too?
What you do is: Object selection, contextmenu (rightclick) -> Group -> [Group] [Ungroup] [Add to Group] [Remove from Group] ?

4. Now, you have an existing group, you click on an object, the group is highlighted and you open the context menu -> Group
What you see is that just the first menu item available only: GROUP
(when you said "I can add to the group ", you mean this, what create a new group - not add an object to the existing group)

All three other context menu items are greyed out. Is this what you see on your side, is this your issue?

If so:

You selected objects who are members of two or more groups!

Greyed out, but the commands behind are still working well.

Try command: UNGROUP
Try command: GROUPEDIT option ADD
Try command: GROUPEDIT option REM

Also available in ribbon, start, Panel group

Hi Steve,

>>"Kinda weird that some of my grouped units I can ungroup, but then some I cannot."

What is with my possible explaination (above)?"

>>"Even the explode won't work."

If you have two circle, what should command Explode do with them?

Please, we like to learn: Share your sample! .dwg (you can delete what you like, except the one example of group)

Show us: share that actual DWG file here with those objects in them. if you cannot, go ask your boss/client for permission or ask them to help with your issue perhaps.
