Cannot escape Pan command

Anonymous
Not applicable

Background:

AutoCAD 2017

Mouse scroll wheel click and hold activates pan command.

Problem:

Increasingly the pan command cannot be escaped after activating the command from the mouse. ESC key does not escape the command. Have to click the window X (close) tab and hit Cancel (instead of save or no save). By clicking cancel it forces me out of the Pan command.

Test with a different mouse and see if the problem goes away.
Also confirm what your moue driver is and what the middle button setting is in the mouse driver.

The same happens to me far too often.

What I do is I move the mouse cursor to the "Zoom Realtime" button and click.

I can then escape.

Doesn't solve the problem, but, gets me working again.

HI

If its happening in all drawings (light or heavy DWG)

Your scroll key (mid Bottom ) has a problem and its not release  back when you taking off your finger (try to clean it  or change mouse)

But if its happening in only in heavy  drawings,

You have not enough RAM or your GC is to Low (try to increase first RAM size and next step ( if you have still same problem ) Change GC

and you can stop unnecessary TASK on your PC for extra RAM and CPU usage .

Good Luck

Hi @Anonymous,

Have you tried any of the suggestions in this thread to resolve your mouse pan issue? I suspect that this is a hardware issue. I suggest trying a new mouse to see if the problem goes away.

This has happened to me every once in a blue moon. I simply use Alt-Tab to switch to a different application and then Alt-Tab back to AutoCAD and it is goes back to normal.

Good luck,
