Can't delete lines

I'm a complete beginner to AutoCad, so please forgive me!

I'd like to clean up a floor plan, so I can dimension it ready for construction. The plan has a lot of other lines for driveway, fencing etc all of which are not required. I've spent hours googling, and attempting different ways, but I cannot select these lines!

Any ideas?Screen Shot 2017-03-01 at 11.35.18 pm.png

If you can see them but not select them, you might want to check if they are on locked layers, or are coming from a reference file.

To select the lines what method are you using? Pick, crossing window, non-crossing window etc.

Hope this helps

All layers are unlocked, and all layers are unfrozen.

Argh, they could be coming from a reference file, which I don't have. How can I check if this is the case?

I've tried all methods - pick, crossing window and non crossing window.

Hi,

Seeing your white window, make sure you are not in layout tab.

Suggest that you check  that you do not have any block in your drawing which may have a construction line embedded in it. Especially if you have a 'smart' block which has visibility states. Double click the block and cycle throught he visibility states. You may find the culprit hiding in the block.
