can I backup and restore my layer color assigments?

Hi,

I am using AutoCAD 2016.  I have a drawing that has many blocks.  Each block includes objects drawn on several different layers.  The color for all objects is set to ByLayer, and I have different colors assigned to different layers.  There are times that I would like to change all objects in my drawing (even if they are inside a block) to a single color.  I can do this by using the -layer commands "Color" option, choosing a color, and using a wildcard "*" to assign this color to all layers.  The only problem is, I would like to be able to return to my original color scheme when I want to.  Can anyone tell me if there is a way I can "backup" all my layer/color assignments before changing everything to a single color so that I can "restore" my layer/color assignments at a later time?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Look in Help for "Layer States". That will accomplish what you're looking for.

Two options come to mind.  If yoou're going to revert to a previous layer state in the same sessio, the LAYERP command will work.

Also explore Layer States in Help for a more robust, long term approach.
