Has anyone experienced not being able to see or copy PDF files that were created by Autocad using the Batch Printing feature. This is totally strange, we have several machines sharing a folder and when we create a batch plot on one machine you can see the PDF just fine on that machine. If you look in the same folder from another machine you see all the files that are in the folder except the PDF files that were batch plotted from AutoCad. If you copy the file into the same folder it is able to be seen and used from the other machines but in its original form you can only see it and use it from the machine that made it. We went so far as to create another shared folder on a different machine and then do the same thing by batch plotting another PDF and then the other machines could not see or use the PDF also.
Computer B has a shared folder, Computer B does a batch plot PDF and saves it directly into a folder within the folder that is shared on computer B. Computer A wants to move over several folders from the shared folder and copies them over. Everything comes over except the Batch plotted PDF files. Computer C tries the same thing and experiences the same result. If Computer B makes a copy of the same file in the same folder the copy is available and will copy over the network without an issue. There is something about a batch plotted PDF file that will not let it be seen or copied over a network with a shared folder.
We also shared a folder on Computer A so that computer B and C could try to accomplish the same thing and the problem moved to what ever machine originally does the batch plot and what ever machine owns the folder. If you batch plot a PDF and then share the folder that the batch plot is in using windows 10 the PDF is not visible and is unable to be copied.
We are using Computer A as the server in a sense. When computer B or C wants to work on a drawing, Computer A will act as the administrator and copy to a shared folder on computer B or C. Then computer B will work on the drawing and afterwards computer A will copy back the newly worked on drawing by copying the whole folder back to computer A. Everything is in the folder and copies back except the Batch Plot PDF's.
We then gave permissions for computer C and B to have direct access to the folder on computer A so they could grab folders and work on them. If there are any batch plots in the folders on computer A when they take the folder to work on it computer B and C do not get them when they copy the folder, nor do they see them.
The issue is exclusive to the machine where the batch plot was done. If computer A did the batch plot then computer A can open, copy and see the PDF file just fine. If any other machine looks at the shared folder or tries to gain access to the file it is no where to be found like it is hidden. If you navigate to the shared folder and it has 10 files in it and one of them is a batch plot it will show you 9 files in your explorer. The total will show up in the lower left corner like the file is not in the folder.
The fun part is if you simply copy the file within the folder then all computers can see it and use it. There is something about a PDF that came from a Batch Plot that will not allow it to be seen or used over a network when using windows 10 machines??
If you have a couple of windows 10 machines and can try this I would love to hear that it happens outside of my office as well. We have a great IT guy that used his laptop and became computer C and he had the same issues. We used WINDIF and compared the copied file to the original and there was nothing different. We also opened the file in Adobe and did a save as onto itself and it would still not make itself available. The only way the files become available is if you change the file name or make a copy of the file. When you copy the file the name changes because it adds (copy) to the file name. This is the computer that made the PDF Batch Plot
This one can not see the PDF Batch Plot You can see the copied file is perfectly usable and visible but the file name had to change. If we make the copy and then delete the original and then remove the word copy from the file name it still works just fine. There is something about the PDF file that is created in AutoCAD that will not let it be copied or seen from another computer??
