Base View From Model Space not working

mto070

I have an issue with the "Base View From Model Space" function when i try to make 2D technical drwaings in templates.

When i have a solid 3D object on the model board and activate the function in the "Layout" panel in the template - nothing happens and the command bar shows the "Move" function instead. When i look at the "F2" history it says that the "Inventor Server Failed to Load" and it goes to the move funtion instead.

I have googled the problem and others seem to have the same issue when they have older versions installed. However, I am running the latest version, and I have both tried to "Repair" and uninstall my AutoCAD, but it has not worked so far...

I am running AutoCAD 2020 Student Version on Windows 10. I don't know if i am the one doing something wrong here or if it is a bug... I am fairly new to AutoCAD.

Uploaded some screen shots. I would appreciate some help! 🙂

Hi,

>> When i look at the "F2" history it says that the "Inventor Server Failed to Load"

Then you have either an installation issue, or your AutoCAD misses support paths.

First please make sure you have installed update 2020.1.2

Then start command _CUI, scroll down to partial menus and make sure "MODELDOC" exists in this list, if not, please add this partial menu.

Thanks for the reply!

I checked the version im running and i have the latest version. It also looks like i have MODELDOC in _CUI and CUILOAD. I added a couple of screen shots.

I can try completely removing AutoCAD and Autodesk from my omputer and download and install it again and see if that helps. Last time I just used the "Repair and Reinstall" feature in Autodesk

Hi,

before uninstall/reinstall/repair-install ... can you please restart your workstation, then start AutoCAD, create a 3D-Solid of type box or cylinder and try then the baseview feature. Does this work?

Hi, sorry for the late reply...

I restarted my computer and started a new drawing, made a small 3D solid cylinder and tried again. Same result unfortunatly.. It showed the same message (Inventor server failed to load) and started the move command.

Hi,

please try to reset the AutoCAD profile as shown >>>here<<<.

If that does not work: make sure you are admin, your antivirus is turned off and then run a repair installation as described >>>here<<<.

I tried both now, but it is unfortunatly still not working.. I am starting to wonder if I am doing something wrong... To test if it works I do this:

- Make a new drawing

- Enter 3D modeling workspace

- I make a solid 3D object (usually something like a 1x1x1mm cube)

- I create a new Layout from a template i want

- I enter the template and go to the Layout tab

- I click on the Base function and then From Model Space

That is when it showes the "Inventor server failed to load" message and enters the Move command instead.

Am i missing something?

Hi,

all what you do is correct.

One chance I see now is that the modeldoc might fail to load because of defect VC++ libraries.

Please follow the uninstall and reinstall procedure shown >>>here<<<

After you uninstalled every of the versions, then installed every x86 as well as x64 libraries of all versions please restart your system and try the same steps in AutoCAD again.

@mto070 I am facing the exact same issue. Did you resolve your problem, how?

Unfortunately, I never resolved this issue. I installed and used Autodesk Inventor instead. Never looked back since.

@pendean

There was some Inventor libraries missing. I got this message when I tried to do the same operation of Base View and this time a message was shown to install some missing inventor components. I followed the installation instruction and now I am able to extract the base views from model space. Thanks.

Very good, I'm glad you solved your problem! This problem occurred in 2020 for me, and I see the solution page that was linked was created Oct 3, 2022. I'll mark this as an accepted solution since it worked for you. Hopefully it will help someone else also in the future.

I had the same issue of getting move command being activated while trying to use base from model space and I was able to solve this problem for autocad 2024 by installing the "Inventor Interoperability 2024.exe" from the autodesk website from where we initially install autocad https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/VIEWBASE-returns-e...

Did you already install this (or perhaps not)?
