I am having real problems with a variety of functions.

 

1)  I open up  a drawing, want to change either the line color or line weight and it kicks me out and the AutoCad alert download scenario appears on the screen

2)  If I hit any of the Insert, Annotate, Layout, View etc. descriptions, it kicks me out.

3)  On some of my drawings, I can access the LA order and the all layers used in my drawings come up.  I can change the line type and color in some drawings, but in other the color in the box above the drawing will not change, it is stuck.

 

This is a recent phenomena.  This is seriously eating into my productivity.

 

I need real help.

Can you dissect this problem a little more?
What version of acad and os? (I noticed your last question was on rel 13. If still r13 what OS are you on?)
Is it all drawings or just a select few?
Does this happen when you start a new dwg using acad’s default template?
When did you first notice this happening?
What’s changed around then?
If it’s in a drawing can you send us a dwg file to look at?

Autocad 2014.  Operating system 8.1.  

 

It seems to be all drawings as I have accessed old projects and the accompanying drawings and it is happening there as well.

 

I am reusing old templates from past projects.  I x-ref drawings into an x-refed titleblock developed years ago.  I was on rel13 for years and now on Autocadd 2014.

 

This started happening yesterday, after two or so years of no problems.

 

The m space .dwg drawings and the x-refed  m space drawings all do the same.

 

I cannot say if anything has changed recently.

 

Find attached drawings.

Hi @Anonymous,

 

I will look at your drawing files to see if there is anything unusual. In the mean time I suggest checking for all hotfixes and service pack from here.

 

Then, go to your Graphics Card manufacturer and verify that you have a current driver installed.

 

[EDIT] Your drawings look nice and clean so I don't think that they are part of this issue.

the service pack downloaded in your e mail was installed.  There were three hot fixes I have downloaded.

 

Not sure about the graphics card. Will look into it.  I am a user, pretty proficient in the application of cadd as it relates to architecture, but do not hang my hat on the techie tree.

 

Have the drawings of mine you have done any of the things I outlined in my previous posting?

I checked the video card and ran a full diagnostic of the system. Nothing seem to be amiss.

AutoCAD/LT2014 users in WIn8/8.1 are starting to report problems in these forums, all starting in the last day or two.

By chance did you install the free TrueView 2018 program in the last day or two?
Does Win8/8.1 report installing any updates in the last day or two?

Yes, 8.1 was upgraded (if you can call it that, about the time this started happening.

 

What do I do?

there is no uploaded Truview software on my computer, only the automatic upgrade of 8.1.  I keep this computer really clean, but I do need an operating system that works with my cad software.

Hi @Anonymous,

 

You can go into your Windows Control Panel>Programs and Features. You will find an item called View installed updates. Look to see which ones were applied most recently and determine if you are willing to uninstall them to see if your AutoCAD returns to normal.

 

You might also try turning off Hardware Acceleration in your GRAPHICSCONFIG. If you can't get AutoCAD to open at all the try using the No Hardware switch when you start it.

So it's likely the Win8.1 update that broke it, nothing more, based on your feedback.

I have removed the last two 8.1 updates from my computer---the last one from 6-14 and the other on 6-19.

 

The computer is still kicking me out.

 

What is happening is that the pull downs from above the drawing are not working---good think I use hot keys for most of my work--but some of the pulldowns are convenient, including annotate, dim and leader.

 

Do you have any other suggestions.  I have not taken the accelerator out of my graphics card, as I do not believe that is the source of the problem.

 

You mentioned that there was some chatter in the community of people experiencing the same thing I have.  Have looked but cannot find.

I have removed the two latest updates of 8.1 from my computer---nothing worked, took out, rebooted and it still kicks me out when I attempt to use the pulldowns.

 

I use mostly hot keys, but some of the pull downs are convenient (annotate, dim and leader to name a few).

 

So what is next?

Toggling Hardware acceleration through GRAPHICSCONFIG is quick and easy to try. I think that is the next step.

As another avenue of research.
IF you ASSUME the problem is not in the files and ASSUME that it's not your computer updates you can test if it's in the software configuration. An easy way to this is to create a new profile on your computer and launch your autocad. This will give you a semi-clean install.  If that helps we can talk about how to cleanup your acad variables. (compare your old ones to the ones that work. Figure out which switch did this to you.
