Autocad "save as" function keeps locking on desktop

Hi everyone,

I use AutoCAD 2023 in combination with Sharepoint.

When i use AutoCAD, and try to "save my drawing as" --> then navigate to desktop --> navigate to Sharepoint --> Select the main sharepoint map --> open the correct sub-map. It breaks all links and resets all paths back to my desktop at the top.

It still shows all maps i would see within Sharepoint at the location i navigated to, but in the top it says desktop.

Then when i save it in the designated map, it just saves it to the desktop leaving nothing in SharePoint.

If i would navigate back to SharePoint using the desktop you keep getting stuck in this endless loop.

And i find this especially strange since my other Autodesk software like Inventor and 3dsMax do not have this problem.

Anyone knows a possible solution to this?

Thanks in advance!

-Nick

P.s. I know SharePoint might not be the best cloud enviorment for AutoCAD, but sadly there is nothing i can change about that.

@n_maasdijk SharePoint is not supported by Autodesk with AutoCAD. That's your primary issue.

So there is not going to be a fix.

Thanks for the reply!

I know it is not supported, but isnt that also the case with OneDrive? But within OneDrive it worked fine originally.

But are you certain there are no workarounds possible?

That’s the thing about being unsupported. It may function differently on one app vs another. When you use Microsoft applications like Word or Excel which do support sharepoint do you run into any problems accessing that location?

@n_maasdijk Here is what Autodesk suggests for OneDrive/Sharepoint usage

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Microsoft-OneDrive...

Remember, Autodesk wants to sell you online file storage for teams (aka sharing) too:

Yes i read that support article. My folders are sychronised locally, but all problems there are not the problems i encounter.

I can open AutoCAD files just fine, and i can also browse to them. The browsing is not the problem, its just somewhere along the browsing process my AutoCAD puts 'desktop' at the top of my screen and when im in the correct onedrive folder and save, it ignores my imput and auto-places it on the desktop.

Hi,

No not at all. Its really only AutoCAD, none of the other applications within the company have any issues.

All mirosoft applications work just fine, even highly error-sensitive exel sheets, all other autodesk products also have o problems.

And AutoCAD also functions properly, its only just the "save as" function thats for some reason auto-locked on saving it to the desktop location.

Thats why i find it so hard to believe its just a case of 'auocad is not supported, there is nothin you can do about it', when all other applications work well, and even autocad has no problems exept for this one.

What if you create a shortcut on your desktop pointing to that link and you click that shortcut when you do Saveas does AutoCAD still revert back to the Desktop?

Sadly, this does also not work. It also keeps resetting the top bar back to the desktop.

Below are a few pictures on how if goes (apologies for the blur, but cant put everything on the internet).

First i go to the Sharepoint Overarching-folder, as you can see everything looks fine:

But then, when i select one of those sub-folders you see this happens:

It switched to desktop on the left and the top, but the main viewport is still of my Sharepoint folder.

So i can navigate to the correct folder within Sharepoint, but when i clock save it keeps resorting to the desktop.

Like I said, "not supported", so I'm not surprised.

If you think Autodesk can fix it... Here are the ways to open a support case with Autodesk if you are on subscription to seek out Autodesk Support's help:
