AutoCAD - Multiple simultaneous users, single machine, different files?

Hello all,

At the significant risk of showing my lack of experience with autocad...

I am looking to spec a single machine for the purpose of autocad design. Some 3d work, some 2d work. But this machine would need to be able to handle multiple users simultaneously working on different files (not the same file at the same time). Is this possible? If so, is there a list of requirements when dealing with graphics load and disk IO in a multi user environment? I know I am probably light on the details. I'll try to get back with more, but I am looking more for ballpark confirmation and direction pointing rather than specific details. I think I could run with it if I am pointed in a direction of information.

Specifically, I am currently looking at a Dell Precision 7920 Rack Workstation with a triple head Nvidia card and 8 SAS or SSD drives, with a VM instance for each user. Am I off the mark here? Is there a guideline on users per VM for a specific card or IO capacity?

Thanks

Hi @joshCT63X,

Welcome to the AutoCAD Community Forums!

It sounds like you are looking at running AutoCAD as a virtualized install in a server environment where multiple users can access and use a single install of AutoCAD at the same time.

AutoCAD is designed for single use installs. At this time, it is not supported as a virtualized multi-user install. Please see the following Autodesk Knowledge Network (AKN) articles for more information on allowed installs and use:

Autodesk has provided this article for single use System requirements for AutoCAD and Toolsets.

All the best,

Hi @cheryl.buck ,

To confirm, are you saying that if I install AutoCAD or Civil3D on a PC in the office under my Windows login and my AEC license, another user with their own license cannot log in and use the software on that same machine?

Thank you!
