I'm having the same problem.  It appears it might be linked to the latest security update from windows

Security update (KB5083769)(26200.8246) INSTALLED 16/04/2026 –

OS Builds 26200.8246 and 26100.8246, cumulative for 25H2 and 24H2

but I'm not savy enough to fix it ☹️.  Really need help

Same here, both 2026 and 2027. freezes upon launch. i can mouse-over inside start page but out of the start page borders everything seems frozen. migrating to default settings, reinstalling, trying different versions, clean install and reinstall (with uninstaller apps), nothing worked for me.
Suggestions on the above link doesn't work either. a week ago 2026 was working great. now both versions not working anymore.

I finding out it only works when it is open with no internet connection.  Once it is connect online, it freeze and even if I turn off the connection, it will only start working once I restart and offline.

Any solution from AutoDesk?   I have encounter several people with the same issue.

Hello @paulhenricarvalho

Thanks for sharing this issue on the forum. From your description, it seems AutoCAD 2026 is freezing immediately after launch, and you are unable to proceed unless you end the process through Task Manager.

In some cases, this behavior can be related to a recent Windows update. Please check whether the Windows update KB5083769 is installed on your system. If it is, refer to: https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/AutoCAD-products-f...)

If the issue still continues, please share the following details so the community can help further:

• Your exact Windows version and build
• Whether this happens with AutoCAD 2026 only or with other Autodesk products as well
• Whether the issue occurs in all user profiles on the machine

Please let us know the results after trying the above steps.

What if Windows doesn't give you the option of uninstalling KB5083769; Is there another work around? In my case, KB5083769 is not listed under the list of updates that can be uninstalled. If I try to run it on the command line (wusa /uninstall /kb:508379), the system won't let me remove it.

Same, I can't uninstall it. I got it intermittently working last night after a clean reinstall and resetting the login information but now it won't work again.

If I shut down the PC, Turn it back on, turn off the Wifi/Internet, start autoCAD and open a local .dwg file, then turn  Wifi back on, autoCAD may run without freezing, but its intermittent and only for that autoCAD session. If I close AutoCAD and relaunch it it will freeze again. If you try that on your PC, do you get the same result?

I haven't had to turn off internet, touch wood, but if I shut down autocad now it won't re-open unless I reboot my PC.  So frustrating

I wasn't able to get that trick to work. But what did work for me is I had a separate user on the work PC for some temporary stuff that I hadn't used in a while. Logging in through that user and then installing AutoCAD got everything working again under that user. Real pain to get an entire user setup on a PC to keep my workflow going but better than nothing while this get's resolved.

Tony,

I just uninstalled KB5083769 Security Update and my AutoCAD is working again.  It's awesome!

I've been unable to open AutoCAD for 10 days!

The instructions below [1 - 4] should help the authors of Messages #10, #11, #12 and #14.

I have been able to Uninstall the Windows Security Update KB5083769.  Now my AutoCAD is running smoothly again!  I have been unable to use AutoCAD for about 10 days and that problem cost me my peace of mind.  I'm running Windows 11.  Here are the steps FURNISHED BY MICROSOFT ON HOW TO UNINSTALL A WINDOWS UPDATE:

1. Select Start > Settings > Windows Undate

2. Under More Options, select Update History

**then View Update history**

3. Under Related settings, select Uninstall updates.

4. From the list, select update you want to remove, and then select Uninstall

(The Update KB5083769 was removed, and life with AutoCAD is good again)

Windows won't let me remove the update per the instructions. See attached for the list of updates it will let me remove.

  • Windows 11 Pro, 25H2, OS Build 26200.8246
  • Happens with all Autodesk AutoCAD products I've tried other than Revit.
  • Only occurs in my primary user profile. Another profile I had created but not used until now is unaffected.

Paul Henri Carvalho,

I followed the instructions to remove the "Knowledge Base" update KB5083769 and my AutoCAD worked flawlessly.

UPDATE NOTE:  The Windows Security Update KB5083769 REINSTALLED ITSELF two days later and I found the same symptom that AutoCAD locked-up immediately upon launching.  I found the update listed in the UPDATE HISTORY again, and went through the Uninstall process for that UPDATE again.

Yes, later that SAME day, Windows REINSTALLED that update KB5083769, AGAIN.

I search and found a method to TURN OFF updates for a fixed period of time.  I selected until the end of May, 2026, and with updates TURNED OFF, my life is good again.

I'm thinking that pausing this Security Update until the end of May will give Microsoft time to "trouble-shoot" this update KB5083769, or at the very least give me time to get to the END of this semester (I teach AutoCAD for a Community College in California.)  I can use the 3 months of Summer, 2026, to find a permanent solution.

My observation is that Windows Security update KB5083769 treats AutoCAD 2026 and 2027 like a VIRUS.

It is May 2026 and this is still happening - it's just a different update.  After restarting ACAD locks up again.  Help!
