AutoCAD is plotting lines that are showing as hatches in Adobe Illustrator

Hi there,

I am a landscape architect and my current workflow for projects is to draft in AutoCAD then export to a PDF to open in Illustrator to finish.

For some reason AutoCAD is plotting lines that are showing as hatches in Illustrator; meaning I have no control over the line style once exported from AutoCAD. I've tried setting the layer style of the lines to '0.00' and turned off 'plot object lineweights'. What I need AutoCAD to do is plot a simple vector line that I have drawn, not countless filled hatches.

Fig 1. Lines show up in illustrator as hatches.

Fig 2. Print settings used.

Can anyone offer some advice? The line type is a 'polyline' if that makes any difference. To say this program is frustrating is an understatement.

Cheers

looks like the cause could be that you forgot to specify a plot style table which controls lineweights:

Thanks for your suggestion Paul.

I can confirm that even when a plot style is applied, the line is still printing out as a hatch.

Perhaps you can share a sample dwg along with plot style for online community to try?

I don't see where you posted in the Illustrator forum to ask bellow peers about this, perhaps they know more about it and have seen such behavior in that program from Adobe

https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/ct-p/ct-illustrator

Ask there, then come back with more info here might be worth it.

This is a demo showing the steps plotting from AutoCAD to PDF & then opening the file in Illustrator with correct linework:

1. Open with AutoCAD: "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 202#\Sample\Database Connectivity\Floor Plan Sample.dwg" (attached)

2. Plot using Sample Floor Plan_Architectural.stb - also shipped with AutoCAD - using settings as shown in Plot - Model screen capture below

3. When Illustrator opens the Floor Plan Sample-Model.pdf (attached) the line work looks exactly the way it should as shown in AI application screen capture - Floor Plan Sample-Model.ai (attached)

Let me know if you get the same results when opening the attached PDF in your Illustrator application
