AutoCAD icon not showing in files

A computer had both AutoCAD 2016 and 2017.  When AutoCAD 2016 was removed, the files of AutoCAD 2017 showing in the Windows Explorer of Windows 10 began to show blank (white) with nothing on it to indicate the AutoCAD program type like before.

How to restore the AutoCAD symbol on these icons?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Would you show us the properties dialog when you right click the CAD file (see attached).

Problem solved.  Right clicked the file, chose Properties and then "Opens With:", then  "change", and selected AutoCAD and now the icons are showing.

Thanks.

Hi,

>> then  "change", and selected AutoCAD

Be careful, that is not the default, the better option is to select "AutoCAD Launcher" instead of the ACAD.EXE.

Especially when you are using different releases and types (verticals) of AutoCAD on the same system.

That opens AutoCAD for just the one time. Right click on the dwg file and choose Open With>Choose another app>select AutoCAD DWG Launcher. Make sure that the checkbox at the bottom is checked.

I have a similar problem - We recently installed AutoCAD LT 2020 and uninstalled AutoCAD LT 2019.

Associating the file with acadlt gives it an icon, but does not help as it opens multiple instances of the program for multiple drawings.

If I associate the file with AutoCAD DWG launcher, the icon becomes a white rectangle.

I presume some path in the registry is still pointing to a folder form the previous version, which is now non-existent.

Any idea what can be done, short of doing a complete clean uninstall and reinstall? There are 22 systems with this problem, so I'd rather have a simple regedit solution.

Hi Alfred

Yes, the registry editing solution worked, but I had to perform both solutions (1 and 2) before it happened.

Thanks a lot!
