AutoCAD 2023 - Select objects then command

We just starting using acad2023.  So of course a few things have changed. When I select/grip/highlight my line work first, then type in the command LAYFRZ, it doesn't automatically freeze the entities I have already selected.  It does work when the command is running and then pick the entities.  Is there an option or system variable setting that needs to be changed?  Or did it get changed in this version?   Pickfirst <1> and Pickadd is set to <2> already, Noun/verb selection is check in the options.

Your 2017 "layfrz" is NOT the "AutoCAD "layfrz" command.

The way you can see in 2023 is the original one (and the same way how it should work in 2017 with the original "layfrz" command).

Please try this in 2017: Start command .layfrz (with the period in front of the commandname)

Is it working the same way as before, or like in 2023?

That is interesting.  When using the .layfrz in 2017 it does duplicate the same behaviors as 2023.  But I can also see why 2023 is only allowing one layer at a time to be frozen while the command is running.  I guess it will just have to be something to get used to.  We aren't using 2017 after this week, so there will be some adjustments and growing pains.

So I have realized I created a command shortcut in the 2017 version as LF for short.  When using that, I can pre-select anything and freeze it.  I created that same command alias in 2023 and now it works different.

I seriously suspect that under 2017 you have something that has redefined the LAYFRZ command.  [I have a differently-defined Offset command, and the regular O command alias for OFFSET "gets" the different one, not the native AutoCAD command, so your LF alias would presumably do likewise.]  Do you have an acaddoc.lsp file or something that contains or loads an Undefine and redefinition?  You could carry that into the new version.

If LAYFRZ became a core AutoCAD command by 2017 [no longer an Express Tool], try doing REDEFINE to it, and see whether the shortcut still works the same.  But that should give the same result as using the period-prefixed command name, so I think I know the answer.

That's not how shortcuts work, with a preselected polyline entering X the default shortcut for EXPLODE automatically converts it to EXPLODE to display:
X EXPLODE 1 found
at the command line, try it yourself.
You've got a lisp loaded with LF as the command according to YOUR video!

I did a little more digging and yes I did find a lisp routine that does freeze layers.  Now to get it running in 2023.  I think the .lsp file I have isn't loading and wasn't brought forward.

I appreciate everyone's help and suggestions!  Thank you all so much!

Hi @kzD1219,

the period forces to run the original built-in command.

I used google and it looks like you have installed the carlson application on your 2017/2020 product,

This application have a function (command loff) with exactly this prompt: "Pick entities on layers to be frozen"

http://files.carlsonsw.com/mirror/manuals/Carlson_2020/index.html?page=source%2FTutorials%2FRoad_Reh...

But I found the prompt in "Field survey" from AutoDESK too

https://download.autodesk.com/WebPub/fieldsurvey/FieldSurvey-UG.pdf

in your 2017 version, are you able to start a command "LOFF" ?

>>"and yes I did find a lisp routine that does freeze layers"

Oh, okay, the 3rd command for the same with the same prompt, funny.

Share the lisp and tell us what the problem is.

In 2023, start command APPLOAD and select the Lisp file,

try command LAYFRZ again.

Yes that is for Level of Detail.

The file that we have was loading on startup with other versions, but not 2023 yet.  Appload does work.  Phew!  My coworkers will be happy they can get it back.  I now may have a few questions about updates to these other old lsp routines.  Fun!

Thwart's lisp https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/topic/72571-freeze-currently-selected-multi-objects/#comment-578682 sounds like exactly what you're looking for. Just change "Test" to whatever you want the command name to be. Written just last year by a good coder.

Time to buckle down on customization. Without anyone knowing what was customized and how, who is going to keep everything updated for newer versions?

I worked for a company who's AutoCAD was so over customized company wide that when they finally upgraded, the current CAD manager had no idea how to bring that customization forward. It made for a lot of very frustrated users. Just a word of caution from my experience.
