AutoCAD 2020 - Cursor not showing distance [NOT DYNAMIC INPUT]

How do I get the cursor to show the distance when I move my mouse away from the starting point? I've searched the help and forums and cannot find any information regarding my problem without the Dynamic Input being the culprit. I DO NOT mean Dynamic Input. I have included 2 pics, one without dynamic input on and this is what I am after. The second shows dynamic input on and this is not what I want. I had to open version 2017 to get Autocad to do this. I am currently running 2020.

Hi, Thanks for the response. Unfortunately those don't work. They all either turn Dynamic input on (1-3) or off (0). I only want to run when it's off and still see the distance, as in picture (1) That I posted. I believe this is not a dynamic input issue. I believe it has to be something else.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion but nothing in the link solved my problem. It seems like that's the same problem I'm having but I don't have the time to reset Autocad to it's defaults at this time. If it does work, I wouldn't know how to distinguish between which system variable is turned off or on on the default state compared to how I'm running. I did try all the other suggestions in the link and nothing worked. 

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So how did you make the image that shows what you want?

I opened Autocad 2017 and just drew a line then took a screenshot using the Windows snipping tool. (I'm having the problem with 2020). The 2017 looked like the default version when I opened it. Is there is a way to compare all system variables associated with this problem as a list? maybe a list of all ACAD system variables and their current settings.

Thanks, I ran it and copied each page to Excel and saw that there are 975 sys var lines to go through on 2020. I now am going to run the same command on 2017 and somehow will have to go through almost 1900 lines to compare which ones may or may not be causing this. I wonder if there is another way to do this?

Another thing I did notice on the 2017 version is ORTHO (F8) has to be on in order to see the dist/angle. If it's off, it doesn't work.

Well, I went through all 1930 +/- system variables. There were about 100 that were different and none were what I was looking for. I'm at a total loss on what to do. I tried all of them that were different and they didn't change the problem I'm having.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them...

Not sure that you have resolved this, try using the F12 key to turn off and on.

Late to the party, but since the topic has been revived:

To get the display as desired in the original image, without Dynamic Input, you need to have Polar Tracking on [F10 key toggles it].  In the DSETTINGS dialog box:

The comment in Message 10 about it only working with Ortho on would be from having the "Track orthogonally only" button picked on the right.  But even without that, it only displays along Polar Angle Settings increments, so you may want to set that to a lower value than shown here.

I wanted to give an update. We have upgraded to 2022 and that has solved the problem. All system variables were imported from the previous version to the new version and it has started working again. I was never able to solve this problem before the upgrade & import of old settings either. 

Edit: as of 6/30/22 the problem has resurfaced. If anyone has had this problem and has been able to find a solution, please share. No changes to  the software or any system variables have been made. This just started on it's own.

Thank you for this, I've been struggling with the same problem on AutoCad 2022 as well, playing around with the settings on DSETTINGS < Dynamic Input allowed me to see the values live alongside the cursor.
(I ticked "Enable dimension input where possible")

In Drafting Settings (DS) under Pointer Input, click on Settings.  Select Cartesian Format, Relative Coordinates, and Always - even when not in command.  Should show distance after these changes.

Hi, thanks for your reply but toggling object snap tracking on/off does not correct the problem.
