AutoCAD 2019 showing "Student Version - Plot Stamp Detected"

We are having issues with the new AutoCAD 2019, some files are showing "Student Version - Plot Stamp Detected". This only shows when opening these files in AutoCAD 2019, previous versions (2017 & 2014) do not show this message.

I did an update to AutoCAD 2019 to the latest version (P.61.0.0 AutoCAD 2019.0.1), this stopped the message in one file, however the message now appears in a different file. I have confirmed this is an issue on all machines and not just one.

The file was created in a full version of AutoCAD 2014, there has never been any student versions used at all.

Now we just need to figure out which drawings have this embedded stamp...yet another speed bump.  Seems one of our associates thought she had a licensed copy installed on her laptop (which she had rights to under our contract) but found out she was running an educational version.

I understand wanting to prevent the pirating of their software, but not at the inconvenience of paying loyal customers that have to find work arounds for their tactics, that hackers will easily crack.  Autodesk would rather figure out more ways to gouge their customers for more $$$ (10%, 20%, then 30% price increase?!?!) than work out programming issues like this.   My company has used the software for over 25 years but all of the recent price increases (because of their monopoly in CAD software), and now this plot stamp reintroduction, is making us re-evaluate our CAD software.

Sadly, that inconvenience cannot be excluded from just you and forced on others with criminal intent only. "good people" always have to pay for the mistakes of others, deliberate or accidental: that's just life.

Was this ever solved or did it just get left as a "too bad, so sad" situation?

We were going to start porting computers over to 2019 but stopped when the first person tried opening some drawings and every single one they tried had the student plot stamp warning. None of these warnings came up when opening these files in 2014, or 2018; and when I save a copy down the warning doesn't show up in 2011.

There is no bug, so need no fix..
You have some workarounds to remove the stamp.

The only bad point is the SP1 2014..
That version don't display the alert and do not remove the stamp.
This is the bad thing today with 2019.
Files or object from such a file with the stamp flag inside are copied in 2014.sp1.
If you not save the file with 2015-2018 the stamp flag is still inside.
Open such a file in 2019 will display the stamp.

The only 'simple way' is a batch job to save the files.

There are tools available to detect the infected files, if you dont want to save all.
I would have 1000 files, i would use TrueConvert and save all files.
Would i have very big fikes or 10.000 or 100.000 files a would search the infected files first and save only the infected.

We are having the exact same issue as Jeremy.  Files created in purchased stand alone commercial versions of AutoCAD LT and never loaded into any educational version are causing the Educational Plot Stamp message in our 2019 AutoCAD LT subscriptions.  I agree it is a bug in 2019 but I don't expect Autodesk to do anything. We just clean them up and move on.  I think it is a bug between stand alone and subscription.

Hi @smooter,

I suggest you download a trial version of AutoCAD 2019 and then give this utility a try. It should help identify all files that have been touched by educational content.

You have not been seeing these watermarks displayed as they were ignored from 2014 sp1 until 2019 was released.

No bug: it is as designed:
"You have not been seeing these watermarks displayed as they were ignored from 2014 sp1 until 2019 was released."

Plus EDU content comes from DWG files (and blocks and whatever other things you call content you copy/paste from other DWG file) that were saved in EDU software, your type of license after the fact is irrelevant and does not auto-remove them.

Hope that helps explain it all.

What you guys keep missing is the fact that there is no content in these
files that came from an EDU version ever.

Hi @smooter,

I suggest trying the utility I suggested. Such EDU content can come from employees taking work home and working on their EDU AutoCAD, from consultant files ( same situation), from files downloaded off the internet such as manufacturer blocks, etc.

Do what JV suggest, as first you can try the trial version of this tool

https://apps.autodesk.com/ACD/en/Detail/Index?id=2395021836005127400&appLang=en&os=Win32_64 )

Please Check files whic are never saved by 2019 and i am sure the tool detect some files (and it is not a bug or a mistake of different licence and versions)

What was you latest version you have saved the dwg(s) that are flagged now.

I say: You worked wir 2014SP1 or you talk about not about your own files,

so you don't know what version saved at last the file(s)

Yes there is or there would be no prompt: Post a DWG file, prove us wrong. Proof is in the file.

If that were true then everyone would be having the same issue, right?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

We are having this issue and we have tested and tested and tested with multiple sources of CLEAN data from MULTIPLE cad packages and Autodesk versions etc, we also have ZERO evidence of an actual contamination by Educational version. Autocad IS false flagging third party dwgs and it is giving us a massive headache. Happy to provide ALL the relevent information, evidence and files.

Kind regards.

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

If you are truly getting false positives, we certainly want some information.  Can you tell me which third-party apps are in play?  Is there a specific process/workflow that creates  or eliminates the issue?

Hello John

This process gives us a false flag:

-Create new 'clean' drawing in Autodesk 2019 (Advance Steel) with a few beams in

-Open and save in Bricscad (no edits etc)

-Open in Autodesk 2019 then flags edu version

We have never previously seen an educational watermark, ever!

We use a mix of Autodesk, Bricscad, ZW Cad and other packages/bolt ons for various reasons

Regards

Hello John

Just to help clarify, we do not have this issue if the original 'clean' file is NOT generated by 2019! Very strange!

I know about this, but
"-Open and save in Bricscad"
Is a Bricscad problem, this software write the dwg as last.

I am sure the oda will fix the teigha library that soon, the same with draftsight files - based on ares, based on teigha.

OR, adesk simply missmachted the alert-message with "non-thrusted", thats my opinion (and adesk have to switch the messagewindow/text)

I'm not sure I agree with that?

I'm pretty sure Bricsys wouldnt be Edu Stamping their DWG save files!

Therefore by default it has to be a false flag?

HI @Anonymous,

Thanks for the info.  Which version of Bricscad are you using?  Do you have the same issue with ZWCad?

When you start the drawing in AutoCAD 2019, can you try it with no template applied so we can eliminate the template from the equation?
