AutoCAD 2019 showing "Student Version - Plot Stamp Detected"

We are having issues with the new AutoCAD 2019, some files are showing "Student Version - Plot Stamp Detected". This only shows when opening these files in AutoCAD 2019, previous versions (2017 & 2014) do not show this message.

I did an update to AutoCAD 2019 to the latest version (P.61.0.0 AutoCAD 2019.0.1), this stopped the message in one file, however the message now appears in a different file. I have confirmed this is an issue on all machines and not just one.

The file was created in a full version of AutoCAD 2014, there has never been any student versions used at all.

Hello John

We have not really tested ZW Cad but it is also flagging EDU version when opening the same files under testing. We have not worked backwards with ZW Cad i.e. saved and opened with Autodesk 2019.

Many thanks

Hello John, we'll do that and eliminate any templates, I'm not sure what the user is doing to create the 'clean' drawing but it does open and save fine in Autodesk 2019 on multiple 2019 versions inc LT. As soon as we save with Bricscad we get the flag.

Hello John, confirmed that the last test drawing was created from 'New Drawing' not from template.

Hello John, we have now also tested some Autodesk 2018 versions and those are creating Edu flag in 2019 when saved in Bricscad. Do you need any .dwg's to have a look at?

@cadffmThank you for your suggestions, we get both flags 'EDU' and 'Non-Trusted'.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for testing 2018 as well.  Yes, I would love to have a drawing from both 2018 and 2019 that have made the roundtrip through Bricscad.

Is it possible to test this on ZW Cad too?  I want to give the dev team as much information as i can to get this resolved.

Hello John, will start from scratch, again, and test 2018, 2019 and ZW Cad.

Just so theres no duplicated effort we have also raised with Sally Dixon at Graitec UK and issued some dwgs. Have also raised with Bricsys through Key Systems Ltd. I have attached the Autodesk 2019 created file last saved by Bricscad.

I am surprised by this interest, the topic should be well known to the deepest development departments at AutoDesk,
one should observes the unwanted competition with the ODA ...?

And: If you start a new file in the programs, then this message does not occur,
it is excluded if the file is created by AutoDesk and then it was saved to a Theiga product, and at last reopened in an AutoDesk 2019 product.

Attachment: Acad 2019 file (from scratch/no template based),

opend in Dessault DraftSight2018 & saved (in there "2013" named Format, which is accept in AutoDesk products 2013-2019(!) and you don't get the information about the fileformat in Acad[F2], inside the dwg it is labled as AC1027 )

Bricscad, ZWcad or Draftsight does not matter, it's just the latest format the ODA Teigha library is writing.

And if you like: The other file is directly created in DraftSight, no Problems in Acad2019, no EDU alert.

Hi,

>> we get both flags 'EDU' and 'Non-Trusted'.

And that is the proof that it's a bug within AutoCAD.

If AutoCAD states this dwg is coming from a none Autodesk product then AUTODESK CAN'T KNOW if that other product was an education product!!!

BTW: BricsCAD V18 created those files with the EDU-plotstamp

Tried now:

  • BricsCAD V17.1.19 ... drawing can be opened in AutoCAD 2019.1.2 without EDU warning
  • BricsCAD V18.2.20 .... drawing saved to DWG2013 format, AutoCAD 2019.1.2 can open that without EDU warning
  • BricsCAD V18.2.20 .... drawing saved to DWG2018 format, AutoCAD 2019.1.2 can open that without EDU warning

So in case you are using BricsCAD V18 lower then 2.20 updating BricsCAD could be a solution.

For BricsCAD i can say, since Update V18.2.10 they use the repaired library and the flag doesn't appear in Acad2019.

Yes, this appears to be the solution, we need to update to the very latest Brics. Hasnt been a problem for us I guess until Autodesk users started to update to 2019.

Many thanks everyone.

Hi @Anonymous and all others participating in this thread.

It does appear that some third party products that use an older ODA library are causing this flag to show the EDU watermark in drawings opened in AutoCAD 2019.

I am trying to narrow down a list of applications and the versions that cause this to happen.  Apparently Bricscad v18.2+ does not produce this but I am hoping you can help me to isolate what other applications do.

Thanks for your help. I would like to get this resolved as quickly as possible.  The intent of Autodesk is to prevent piracy - not to prevent use and interaction with other software.

Hello John

Yes the latest Bricscad update fixed things, from what we can make out the flag only occurred if there were 3D objects/proxy entities in the dwg. In our case it was steel beams from Advance Steel. Interestingly another package we have (for reasons only known to a few!) called ZWCad also flagged the EDU warning with the same dwgs.

Hope this helps and thanks for everyones advice.

Kind regards.

As you can read here in my posting it is a problem on dassaults side.

They use a dwg library which is not from autodesk.

In newer versions it is solved, but draftside is using an older version.

This is a bug in Autocad 2019. I have the same problem with DWG files exported out of SketchUp.

Hi @dhenkeTACXS,

What version of Sketchup are you using? I have 2018 Pro. I can create a drawing and export to to AutoCAD DWG format. Then I open this resulting file in AutoCAD 2019 and there is no watermark detected.

I am using SketchUp Pro 2018, did some editing in Draftsight 2018, and then opened it in AutoCAD Architecture 2019. Attached is a copy of the file.

Hi @dhenkeTACXS,

As noted in some previous posts, the exact version of Draftsight might be the culprit.  Older versions are using older versions of the ODA libraries which seem to be part of this issue. I suggest checking to see that your Draftsight is fully patched and updated.
