AutoCAD 2019 removed FBX import and export

Hi,

I just want to mention for all thinking about updating to 2019 that FBX can't be imported and can't be exported any more.

Also discussed >>>here<<< as I use it quite often to exchange data between Infraworks and Civil 3D. But there are some other reasons too to need FBX import and export.

For me it's not an upgrade, it's a downgrade when a new version of a product can do less than the previous one. Really sad with that.

What about a Navisworks workflow? I can't get items into Autocad now from my NWD's. I thought Autocad didn't remove commands once in the program.

wow, we are seeing internal struggles at Adesk.

They seriously made an additional tool for a significant feature they removed, I have never seen that happen.

Might be because Mr Bricscad does have fbx import and export???

BTW, I use it for infraworks and last Friday thought maybe there was a better workflow for getting 3d solids into it.

I tried the "add 3d drawing" approach and got this malarky "you must have a bim 360 account" message and got rejected. So back to FBX. Adesk's creativity at getting us to jump through cloud hoops is getting quite slimy.

So, What about Autocad 2020 is there opportunity to export .FBX? I need it like an air every time, what the crap is that I did not understand really, I don't want to use naviswork, is there any new ADD ons to install on my Autocad or Autocad civil? or how can I export 3D textured models for infraworks? anybody has any idea? can anyone give me advise?

You can't, and for me that seems more like the start of the end.

In Infraworks DWG import does not handle textures (neither via cloud nor via Navisworks), so all my content (e.g. traffic signs) I made in 3D can't be transferred any more.

I don't know how Autodesk thinks about ignore AutoCAD 3D data for Infraworks.

I'm very sad and disappointed about that.

I have same problem I have lots of road signs and textured retaining walls and sort of things like power lines and so on, how can I import all this staff? how would you import all this staffs in infraworks?

Currently I use AutoCAD 2018 (or 2019 with plugin).

Autodesk recommends to use 3DS-Max, but on one side I can't run my automated way from AutoCAD to InfraWorks using this step, on the other side textures are many times incorrect mapped (assigning mapping coordinates to an AutoCAD object is not correct transferred to 3DS-Max). So it is not really an alternative.

We have to look now for different approaches, either to find a way from AutoCAD to InfraWorks or an alternative to InfraWorks. If you simply want to use InfraWorks as a real-time viewer of Civil 3D projects with a it live in the scene there are a lot of alternatives. The critical part with that is that exchanging data to other systems are also based on FBX (as this is a great exchange standard in the meantime, it might be too bad to think that this could be the reason why AutoCAD cut it).

So I have installed Navisworks Manage and I have tried it for just one example yet,  it works perfect, materials appears great. are you kidding me?  I have installed whole software for just one exporting, what a pity.

This is file AutodeskAutocadFBX2019_64.exe but it was removed by Autodesk last month

Yes.

But ridiculous enough, Autodesk removed this plugin.

I would never understand why removing an addon that was working well and needed (from Autodesk's customers!). For me this looks like blocking these users (their customers) intentionally.

If you have access to Navisworks Simulate 2019 or later, below is a link to a Navisworks app that allows you to import objects directly from Navisworks to AutoCAD in real time. It makes referencing objects in a Federated model relatively easy.
 
While it is currently not optimized for large exports (either a lot of objects, or very complicated object geometry), it will work. There are plans to add the ability to export a file out of Navisworks to disc, then import  into AutoCAD in a future release which should hopefully make it more efficient for very large imports.

Export in future to what format? Do you mean you have written your own fbx add-on?

Given that adesk wrote their own add-on for 2019, this is all silliness. Clearly the libraries needed are available yet adesk took out the feature for business reasons. Or would adesk care to get specific on technical reasons it was removed?
