Autocad 2018 freezes after opening file

Hi,

My AutoCAD 2018 freezes just after opening a dwg file. I have installed the latest AutoCAD 2018 updates and have even installed AutoCAD 2017+updates with the same frozen result.

With both 2017 and 2018 versions having the same issue it suggests to me that it is an issue outside of AutoCAD, maybe with windows updates. I am running Windows 10 with .NET version of 4.7.02556. I have checked a few forums that suggest it is an issue with the .NET framework version 4.7.1 and that a previous version should be installed. The problem I have is that Windows 10 will not allow me to uninstall the latest .NET 4.7.1 version or install a previous version.

Can someone please advise me if it is a .NET framework issue and if yes how I get this resolved or if it is something else, what is it and how do I resolve it. Thanks.

Jason

Check to see if there's an open window behind the application. You can do this by using Alt+Space bar then use the arrow keys to move the dialog back to the current screen.

Also, check task manager to see if LMU.exe is running in the background. If so, the issue is with activation. Let me know...

Hi Darin,

Thanks for the quick reply.

There aren't any open windows behind the application. In fact the application freezes before opening the file now.

Task manager doesn't show any activity for AutoCAD, as you can see I have other Autodesk products (Revit) open and they are working fine. I have also tried this without any other applications open, but AutoCAD still freezes.

We also have another workstation with a different Autodesk subscription license that has started the same issue today.

Thanks Jason.

Please update your graphics card driver, by downloading the latest driver from the vendor's website (i.e. www.nvidia.com).

As a test, you can also add the /NOHARWARE switch to the shortcut Target field as shown in the image below, then launch the application again.
