AutoCAD 2016 - Cant explode blocks in block editor

Anonymous
Not applicable

Just started using version 2016 and found that I cannot explode a block that I inserted inside block editor.

I saved the same drawing down to version 2011 and it allows me to explode blocks within block editor.

Did something change with version 2016?

And yes the block has the attribute selected to allow exploding.

Update:   So the block can be exploded using the "X" hot key, but will not explode using the icon.

Seems like a software bug?

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Community!

If I understand correctly, you have a block in your drawing. When you select the explode icon and then select the block to explode it will not work. If you type 'X' and then select the block it will explode.

Or, is it the order you are selecting in? Check your PICKFIRST variable and set it to 1. Please let me know if this corrects the problem or if I am misunderstanding the issue.

You are correct.

I am trying to explode a block that I inserted within a block while in block editor mode.

It doesn't matter if I select the block first, then the explode icon.... or if I select the icon, then the block.

I can't seem to find the PICKFIRST variable you mentioned (see screen shot)? but don't believe it will have any effect based on information above.

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you attach the drawing so I can determine it it a problem with the drawing itself or if it is something else?

Open up FIRST BLOCK in block editor, then try to explode SECOND BLOCK using icon.

It won't explode for me.

But will explode if I select SECOND BLOCK and use the "X" hot key.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am trying to duplicate the issue but want to make sure I am following the same steps.  Please take a look at my Screencast to see if I missed something.

Not doing it the same way.

1) Open up the block called FIRST BLOCK in block editor.

2) Within block editor, try to explode the block called SECOND BLOCK

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for the clarification. I opened First block in editor. Then using the icon for Explode I selected Second block and the command worked fine.

So....let's try this. Please create a new user account (full administrator), log on to your workstation and see if the problem persists.

Please post your results.

Logging on as a new user seemed to work.

What would you suggest I change in my own user profile to correct the issue?

Hi @Anonymous,

We could try and copy the new profile stuff over but that can create its own problems.

Is it possible to do a Reset Settings to Default to see if that helps?

So I exported my user profile from 2011 and imported it in 2016.

This got rid of the top panel and gave me back the tool bars I always had in 2011, including the EXPLODE icon shown in the attachment.

Now I can explode the block using the icon.

Thanks for the help.

I'm still not sure why the top panel explode icon in the 2016 HOME panel did not work.
