AutoCaD 2016 cannot open a file created by AutoCad 2014

Its perplexing, I reset the 2016 and attempted to open and it says its not compatible with my version. It shouldn't have an issue opening something that was created on the 2014 version. Any ideas, support was a dead end.

@wlessor

Welcome to the Community.  Has the file always been in your possession?  What I mean is, if someone else had the file and opened it in a newer version of Acad, and then sent it back to you, that would explain the error.

Your DWG file is corrupt beyond repair, or someone with AutoCAD 2017 or newer last saved it for you.

Go grab the free DWGTRUEVIEW program from Autodesk to see if the file opens there, then knock it down to an older format in the viewer so you can use it https://www.autodesk.com/products/dwg-trueview/overview

Or share your DWG file here for others to try.

It was created in 2014 Auto Cad and when trying to open it in 2016 it fails. True viewer opens it just fine but my user need to edit it. Thanks for the quick response.

As I noted in my first reply, with DWGTRUEVIEW open, convert the file down in the viewer for your older program to be able to open it, like this (aim for an older format)

Unless your AutoCAD 2016 is also messed up.

I reset the 2016 ??

You installed, reinstalled, repair?  something didn't work right?

Which version of Windows (2016 is not support with Win10, 11) seems like there isn't enough information here.

The problem is your Autocad 2016 is not compatible with Win11, not because version 14 of the dwg.

All the same as shown here:

If successfully installed, can it be activated?
