Applying Large Material on 3D Faces/Meshes of Furniture

I am trying to add a large fabric image to a furniture piece for rendering. When I do so, it adds the image on every single 3D face, thus losing the overall pattern. I have tried to convert the 3D faces to mesh but that doesn't seem to change anything. I also can't figure out what command could join them all together (as either as a 3D face or mesh) to allow the image to be applied more true to reality.

You should convert all the 3D Faces to Surfaces, join them all together and finally apply the material.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Type CONVTOSURFACE on the command line.
  2. Select all the individual 3D Faces and hit Enter.
  3. New Surfaces will be created superimposed to the previous 3D Faces.
  4. To  get rid of the old 3D Faces, type QSE. On Object type select 3D Face, on Operator select Select All and click OK.
  5. Hit Delete Key to delete all selected 3D Faces.
  6. To join the remaining Surfaces, type UNI, select all the Surfaces and hit Enter.
  7. Finally, drag-and-drop your custom material.

Furthermore, the MATERIALMAP command adjusts how a texture wraps around different shapes by changing the alignment or mapping. Please check the following articles:
