All older version CAD files missing!

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi, I recently un-installed my student Autocad 2012 program (it was on C: drive), then installed my new 2018 student Autocad (on my D; drive - C: was almost full). It looks like it installed properly, but now I can not find ANY of my earlier DWG. files created in the 2012 version. They are all missing, even when trying to find them in Explorer. Please help if you can. Thank you.

Where did you keep them before?

Is it possible they were in a folder that was deleted by the uninstall?

Is the folder still there and the files that were once in it have been deleted?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Thank you for your help. The folders are still there. In fact some of the files also included PDF of some of my plans, they are still there, but the AutoCad files are gone. I think it may be possible the uninstall lost the files, if so do you know if they can be recovered?

you could try the windows system restore point but this is not guaranteed that you will recover everything

I don't think Windows System Restore will replace deleted files.

Hello, Thank you! I found some of the files by your suggestion, but the file string location includes the Autocad 2012 version which I no longer have. I'm a bit hesitant to try and open it, for fear of damaging what I may have left. As you can tell I am not super knowledgeable when it comes to computers inner workings :). Thank you for taking time to help me.

If the folders are there and the .pdf files are there then perhaps the file explorer isn't seeing the .dwg?  Use the new install of AutoCAD and navigate to the folders that held the drawings, make sure the file type in the open dialog is set for .dwg and let us know.

Also,  create a folder outside of AutoCAD for your files.  It can be as simple as C:\ACAD\PROJECTS\... or place them in your documents folder under your user name and create a folder like MY CAD DRAWINGS, or just ACAD, etc.
