A Bit Fancy - Text ACCURATELY placed on a curved surface

Hi All,

I have FINALLY finished my homework. The last Drawing was a Micrometer. Yay!

BTW this is NOT my homework. It is something I can see I might need to know how to

do in the future that I want to learn.

Ok, so I can hand it in and I will pass but I wanted to get a bit fancy and work out

how to put the graduated scale on the Sleeve and the Spindle. I can think of a few

ways I might be able to do it but can't actually get it to work. What I want is this:

There is a simple Linear Scale on the Sleeve which would involve a combination of Text

and 2D lines. I can draw it in 2D but how do I project this onto a Curved surface?

Next there is the Graduations on the Spindle. This is also a series of graduations and

text, but this has to be accurately spaced around basically a donut wedge. My

thoughts were that the graduations can be accurately placed with the Polar Array

but how do I do this, and how do I get the text in the right place without painfully

typing it in manually?

Your advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks for answering.

That is what I want but is actually the next step to where I want to be for this problem. I

am having issues also getting embossing and engraving to work.

What I want to do is put the linear scale on the yellow part, and an accurate circular scale

on the inclined surface between the yellow part and your number. For now I just wanted

the text and the scale but the engraved effect is ultimately what I would do.

If I was designing a Micrometer for real then this would have to be very accurate, not just

for show. The Graduations would need to be in exactly the right place and the text more or less

in the right area. What I mean by that is that the text would only need to be above the right

graduation, although say 1mm above and centred would be the desired effect.
