When I select "base" "from modelspace" from the top banner the command line reads "move". I have no idea what to try. Any ideas?

Hi,

welcome @Anonymous.autodesk.com!

Which version of AutoCAD?
First make sure your AutoCAD has installed the latest update/service pack from >>>here<<<.

If I'm correct that your command-line tells you "Inventor Server failed to load" then this might help >>>click<<<.

I did most of the drawing on a 2017 version but was working on 2015. I am downloading 2018 now and that should, hopefully, solve my problems.

Hi,

>> I did most of the drawing on a 2017 version but was working on 2015.

For VIEWBASE objects it sometimes is critical to open drawings with older releases than the VIEWBASE objects are created. That should be avoided.

Just tried: created VIEWBASE with AutoCAD 2018, saved the drawing in 2013 format, opened it with AutoCAD 2017, tried to section the viewbase-object and landed in the MOVE command to.

But in the command line AutoCAD reports that:

Unable to perform the requested action. This drawing was last edited with model documentation in a newer version of AutoCAD.

So it's simply not the recommended way.

Be careful!

  • AutoCAD 2018 has a different dwg-format, that files can't be opened in older versions of AutoCAD directly.
  • Saving back 2018 drawings to DWG-2013 format even creates more conflicts.
  • Mixed environments (different AutoCAD releases) is more difficult with 2018 than with older releases.

HI @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Typically, you are not going to be able to open and use a Viewbase Layout that was created in a newer release. Even if the file format is the same version, the Inventor engine associated with each version of AutoCAD changes and are not backward compatible.

So, only go to the newest version if that is where the data will remain.
