2D SECTION FROM 3D MODEL

Hi

New to this so excuse my ignorance,

I have a large 3d model of which I want to drop a few 2d views to create layouts. at different levels.

I have used create a section with volume and made a block while in hidden line mode.

The section however does not remove hidden lines, they are broken in the right places but still there

I have set hidden lines not to show in visual styles but it does not help.

Is there something I am doing wrong or an easier way to produce floor layouts.

Hi @hamish.maclean,

and welcome to the community 

Type the command " viewbase " 

This will allow you to create 2D views from your 3D Model in the layout where you can annotate it.

Is this what you were looking for?

Thanks for the help, unfortunately "viewbase" while  appearing to be a great tool does not quite give me what I want.

I need a several sectional plan views (with hidden lines removed) through  5m deep sections of my model, which I can then modify, add to and annotate.

As I mentioned "Section Plane_volume" seems to be ideal except the hidden lines are not being removed when the block is generated and I have to manually remove them....

Maybe I don't see your real needs, but that sections are done within a couple of minutes (and stay associative to the original 3D object).

What are you missing here?

Apologies for my late reply..

Thanks to you and Alfred for your help, I think my problem is I need to spend more time playing with the settings in the section plane command and with viewbase to see what they can do. I am learning on the job and rushing things a bit, I will look for some tutorials or a course. but what your advice has given me is enough to get me started.
