2024 Slow updating properties palette

Hi All,

I've recently had a new hardware upgrade, and I'm working very hard not to be disappointed. Maybe someone here can help..

I run autocad with the properties palette permanently display at the side of my drawing area, it's pretty much essential to my established workflow.  I'm noticing now when selecting or deselecting an entity in the drawing window I've got a fraction of a second delay whilst the computer refreshes the palette.  This is a nuisance and I'd like to fix it..
Is anyone else having this issue? Has anyone successfully fixed it?

Hardware: HP Zbook i9 13950HX @2.2GHz 32MbRam, RTX 3500 GPU 1TB SSD External 4K display on DP from HP G5 Dock.

Drivers: Nvidia 551.61

Software: Window 11 22H2, Autocad 2024.1.2

The External display is what I'm using for the Autocad window, and it's being managed/driven by the RTX chip, not the integrated graphics. I'm also currently running with hardware acceleration on

I think I've got all the relevant details above, if not tuner log from autocad is pasted below:

Update:

I think it's a processor throttling thing - I've previously been running the laptop with power supplied via the USB C/Thunderbolt connector - this is less than the 230W that's supplied from the bundled PSU.  Plugging the PSU in as well as the thunderbolt lead improves the performance even in 'best performance' mode and speeds up the refresh of the palettes.

It ain't perfect, but it's a lot more livable.

That's how most modern laptops work: all of those "12-hours-running-smoothly" claims are based on throttling, welcome to the new reality.

@GilesPhillips

i had a similar issue recently. i like to keep my properties up as well, but i had recently closed it due to the lag.
while i'm not sure it was directly related but, i did find something that increased my speed all around and it's a massive improvement.

turned out it was a combination of Sophos File Scanner, Sophos Endpoint Defense Software and AutoCAD.

I.T. was changing a bunch of settings in Sophos and ended up contacting them.

Sophos found that their software was scanning a folder called C:\users\XXXXXXXXX\appdata\local\temp\.das.local.jobsroot\ directly on my PC
It was FILLED with .dwg.lnk files, but those files disappear eventually once sophos catches up scanning all the files i've opened and closed.

granted i'm using autocad 2021, but apparently the BLOCKMRULIST variable is set to 50 as the standard. BLOCKMRULIST "Controls the number of most recently used blocks displayed in the Recent tab of the Blocks palette."

https://help.autodesk.com/view/ACD/2021/ENU/?guid=GUID-DDBD0D1B-F4DB-4E4A-8A38-016A2CBE5A20

I use the CLASSICINSERT and my other co-workers use the DESIGNCENTER so we have no need for the BLOCKMRULIST to be set at 50 for the new "INSERT" BLOCK PALETTE.

Well, this also meant that SOPHOS was scanning EVERY temp file made by AutoCAD from the BLOCKMRULIST being set to 50. This was maxing out my CPU usage and RAM.

Changing BLOCKMRULIST and set to 0 made a MASSIVE difference on my PC.

hope this helps!

There are plenty of things to try in the thread you posted in: list which ones you've tried so far please.

I have the same issue.

I have tried:

1. Update video card driver to the latest

2. update win11 to the latest

3. tried

     https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Delay-in-the-Prope...

4. reboot.

Rebooting helps a while however it keeps getting worse until next rebooting.

I am using desktop instead of laptop.

NVidia Geforce RTX 2060 + 12g RAM.

I don't have " Sophos File Scanner, Sophos Endpoint Defense Software" etc.

@TiStars If a reboot fixes the issue for a while then it's your video card choking under AutoCAD that is the culprit most likely.

Show us screenshots of your AutoCAD pop-ups for GRAPHICSCONFIG and ABOUT commands please.

Can you provide a comprehensive list with verified solutions? If you don't have a concrete fix to clearly identify the issue, please refrain from replying to each person experiencing this problem with generic or unhelpful answers.

Help yourself by first exploring the replies already provided in this thread, if they don't work tell everyone what you've tried in detail, then provide a very detailed information about your setup (see my last post for minimum to share)

OR

You can open a support ticket with Autodesk through your accounts page like this:
https://www.autodesk.com/support/account/manage/use/support#:~:text=com/plans.-,Contact%20support,-S...
and

I assure you, I didn’t request your input. This space really isn’t designed for unsolicited outbursts. So, if you could kindly redirect that energy elsewhere, that would be much appreciated

Just because you don't care for the tone does not mean it is as you interpret it. I see nothing that warrants your personal attack. Take in the information and move on.

Hi @pendean,

The screenshots are as below, thanks for your time!

BTW, I found same issue on my laptop which is C3D 2026. I could provide same screenshots for it as well later if needed.

One thing I forgot to mentioned, is the slowdown disappears once I turn of the properties pallet.

So obviously the problem is only on the pallet.

Quick Properties is a bit better,  however I guess is just because the items on it are less than the Full version of properties pallet.

update:

Autodesk Customer Support got back to me, recommended several solutions however they did not work for me.

They suggest a sharing session to look into the issue.

  • 3D objects in an AutoCAD product cause the program to freeze or hang
  • The steps of below:
    • Change the acad.exe DPI High Settings:

      1. Right-click the AutoCAD shortcut or the exe program file and choose Properties.
      2. Under the Compatibility tab, click "Change high DPI settings"
      3. TiStars_0-1751498521502.png

      4. Enable override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by: System.

Hi,

Autodesk support call me today and had a look of the slowness of my CAD.

He seems not quite convinced about the slowness as the issue was not the worst case when he ringed me.

Anyway he collected some data from my computer for his team analysis, but won't expect any quick solution.

Hope the data helps.
