2017 Blocks inserted using Tool Palettes create Noplot layers

New issue with Autocad 2017:

When inserting a block (electrical symbol) from a Tool Palette, if the block's layer is not already defined in the drawing, the symbol layer is created as a Noplot layer.

Been using Tool Palettes for years and have never seen this particular quirk.

All the electrical symbols are in one master library drawing.  The layers in that drawing are all set as plottable.  I also made sure that the current layer of the drawing into which I was inserting the symbol was not set to Noplot, just in case the new layer was being created based on the current layer settings.  The new layer still got set to Noplot.

If the symbol layers are created before the symbol is inserted, inserting a symbol from the tool palette doesn't affect the preset layer settings.

The trouble is, as we are used to the layer being created properly in previous versions of Autocad, and Noplot layers presenting on screen as if they were plottable (ie. not faded or a different colour to indicate the Noplot status - HINT, HINT Autodesk!), drawings are getting plotted with missing symbols.

Anyone else noticing this behaviour?

I share your pain. Smiley Frustrated

It must be a complicated issue or it would have been fixed by now.  At least we are not being ignored!

I still haven't transitioned the other users to 2017, even though I did the palettes workaround for my station.

I found another annoying issue with 2017 to do with linetype display not updating (Known Issue) so unless that gets fixed in an update, we'll be sticking with 2016.

Sofia:

Good news that the problem has been found and solved for the 2018 release at least.  Thanks for keeping us updated.  Fingers crossed for a possible solution in 2017...  Smiley Tongue Smiley Wink

To throw it out there again, we added all the layers back into our template so in new drawings the no plot is not a problem.

For older drawings, we have had to get used to every time we add an object or modify it to check the plot column in the layer palette.

Looking forward to 2018!

Same here. I have 12 MEP palettes that I have no time to recreate. We are sticking with 2016 for now.

Thanks for the update.

Hi @Anonymous,

for your older drawing that don't meet the layer standards you could use Layer Translation. So if you know that you will work with an older drawing, before starting, just run laytrans and there you have all your layers.

And no guys, you are not ignored at all Smiley Happy

Will there be a Service Pack released to fix the 2017 software?

I got the Find/Replace "isNotPlotted="TRUE" " solution to work for me.  I have not tried this, but what about using "Migrate Custom Settings" to export/import the Tool Palettes between versions? Or creating a new T/P tab and copy/paste all objects in the T/P from one to the other?

Thanks

Migrating setting won't work. I originally used the migrate settings tool and thought that's why I was having this problem. However, you can create a new tool palette and copy/paste blocks and that will work. I chose to stick with 2016 for now. Recreating my tool palettes is not an option right now due to workload.

My company is having the same issue.

I guess that is why I've heard to never migrate tool palettes from 1 version to the next.

A couple days before we realized what this was I noticed the problem with 1 block and recreated it by dragging from design center.  Problem was fixed.

Now I just need to do the other 100 or so blocks & we're good to go.

Good luck everyone.

There are easier solutions mentioned in this post than recreating the entire palette Read posts 10 & 11 or make a new .ATC file and copy/paste from the old tab while in Autocad

Hi guys,

yesterday I had to explain the atc - renaming - step to another customer. The easiest way to this was a video which I'll be happy share with you Smiley Happy

Good luck Smiley Happy

Yesterday not of my bricks printed in my brickwall detail. I've turned in drawings with missing information multiple times. I say on average this issue makes me look stupid at least twice a day trust me when I say I sincerely do not need any help with that.

I appreciate you hear us & are working on it. I'm sorry I can't follow what the video is even trying to communicate. I hope if 2018 is fixed then there will be a service fix for 2017 soon.

I wasn't sure what you were showing in the video either.  I was expecting it to go on a little more to get to what I thought it was meant to show us.

The video illustrates the problem and the very end shows how to solve it. You can also read posts 10 and 11 for the solution. Good luck

The video stops one step short of showing how to solve it. And I wouldn't call it a solution, only a workaround.

Furthermore and as mentioned, if you're sharing your tool palette across multiple versions and users, there is no workaround.

Thanks Sofia for following up on this.

But declaring the problem solved for 2018 when Autodesk just recently released 2017, and with no hot fix to solve this, is a bit shameful.

Luckily for me, all our users just switched to 2017 so I can implement the workaround.

All the best,

David

Hi,

sorry for the delay... I had some days off...

Well, I guess the question for the link has been resolved - the video in implemented in the post.

And YES - this is only one possible workaround and it is showing what the accepted solution in this thread is describing - nothing more.

I am really, really sorry for the inconvenience Smiley Sad Autodesk is aware of this situation and our development is working on it. Unfortunately the decision is not up to me. Best thing I can do here is to keep you updated and provide assistance for the workarounds.

Please hang on...

Thanks a lot

That's great news for Inventor 2017 users but what about those of us who use standard AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT 2017?
