trouble opening dwg files

Hi

I have AutoCad LT for Mac 2015. I recently ran the update #6, but I am still having this problem:

When I try to open a file from Finder, Adobe AI tries to open the file, and of course, it can not. I am not given an options of which program to open it with... that is the most intuitive way to open it for me and ideally I could do it that way.

When I try to open the file from within AutoCad, I get a message that the file can only be opened read-only as it is in use elsewhere (it is not). That is unruly and confusing to re-save with new names each time I open it. (I posted this part of the question on the Mac forum page too). I do not believe I have any Autocad drawing opened anywhere. I have fully turned off the computer and tried that but to no avail...

any ideas anyone?

: o

thanks,

Megan

Hi Megan,

I think this is the same question as here:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-for-mac-forum/file-won-t-open/td-p/7353087

If yes, than it is already resolved.
To be able to open DWG file in AutoCAD by double clicking on it in Finder, you need to use "Get Info" on any DWG file and set "Open with" option to AutoCAD, then use "Change all" button to make this option default for all DWG documents.

Yes, that was me there too.
I didn’t know whether to ask my question in the Mac+Autocad Forum or the Autocad LT forum. Either way you helped me greatly.

thank you!
