Title block template in Paper Space

AutoCAD for Mac 2016. I can't get my titleblock template to work in paperspace. When I open the attached dwg file and go to PS I attempt to create a new layout from a template (attached D size dwg file). Nothing happens. It doesn't display. No viewport, just blank paper with part of the helix showing.

I've watched AutoCAD you-tube until my eyes are blurry but whatever those people are doing it doesn't seem to work for me. Obviously I'm missing something...

Please help,

Nick

( I had to change the file ext on the D-TITLEBLOCK file attachment because the "forum" won't allow dwt ext.)

Hi Nick,

You need:
- move title block from Model space to Layout in DWT file in order to import not only viewport(s), but also the Title block.
- use QUICKVIEW command in the drawing where you want to insert Layout from the template, right click on empty area in Quick View drawings window, select New Layout from template, navigate to the place where your template is saved, select it, than select Layout name you want to insert. New Layout will be added to the drawing with the contents (geometry and viewports) to the current drawing - you should see it in the Layout dropdown list on the Status Bar.

Hi Maxim,

The D-TITLEBLOCK is already in PS Layout.

When I right click and select the dwt there is only 1 layout name (Layout 1). It renames the layout to Layout 2-Layout 1in the drop-down list. The layers from the Titleblock file are listed, but I can't see the titleblock template in paper space.

The only way I can make this work is if I import it as a block into a blank PS in the HELIX dwg. Then I can do SOLVIEW for the different ortho viewports within the Title Block template.

However, when I execute the SOLDRAW command the line drawings are terrible even after I turn off the hid layers. Splines and circles are not uniform or smooth. The FLATSHOT drawings I've created are acceptable and can include tangent lines to help define shape (can't do that in SOLDRAW).

Suggestions? Thoughts?

Thank you,

Nick

No, the geometry of the Title block in your template is in Model space, but if you want to import it when you use "Import layout" feature, you need to put on to the Layout (see corrected version of DWT file in the attachment)

Please look also in the attachment what I got from your drawing.

I this what you want?

I imported Layout "D size" from the corrected DWT file.

After performing SOLVIEW (not sure I was correct about view names and view directions - but this is another thing), I used SOLDRAW to make flat representations of the Helix. Than I switched to Model space and assigned HIDDEN linetype to all "*-hid" layers (SOLDRAW doesn't do this automatically. Than back to Layout - all hidden lines now shows correctly.

Hi Maxim,

So how do I get the geometry into the layout?

I open my D TITLEBLOCK.dwg file.

I select Paper Space and the titleblock is in the viewport.

I save as .dwt file and close.

What else do I need to do to have it look like the dwt file you sent me? Your file has nothing showing on the model space tab but mine does.

Regards,

Nick

When you import Layout only objects from Layout imported, so if you need title block, you need to place it in the Layout, but not in Model.
I moved everything from Model space to the Layout with Copy (Cut) - Paste via clipboard: select title block elements in Model, copy them to clipboard, tan switch to Layout and paste from clipboard. Than adjust the position of the title block in the layout. You may leave title block elements in model space in the template ore delete them - this doesn't affect importing.
