I know how to set the right mouse click to 'enter', but it doesn't work correctly it seems. If I select an object before entering a command, then enter a command, then right click - the shortcut menu appears instead of acting as 'enter'. If I enter a command, then right click to accept command, then click object, then right click or enter everything works fine. But I want to click on an object with no command entered, then enter the command, and then right click for enter. In this scenario it doesn't work and I have to lift my hand off of the mouse and click enter on my keyboard.
Is there a fix for this?
thanks

Hi,
Here is a trick, that can help you:
- Check-mark "Enable quick secondary click as return key" in AutoCAD options (I think you already done this)
- at the command prompt type SHORTCUTMENU and hit return, type 0 (zero) and hit return
- again go to AutoCAD options and check-mark "Enable quick secondary click as return key" as it should be disabled now.
- click OK in Options and try your workflow.
Should work now

Thank you, that worked a charm. Interesting to note that the setting '0' caused my curser to hang for a moment, bad enough to mess with my workflow. I tried the setting '1' (without knowing what that means) and it worked well without the hang.
Thanks again

where can I find this option in AutoCAD? "Enable quick secondary click as return key" I cant find it in OPTION.

Having the same problem in Autocad Mac LT 2017, but this solution didn't work for me:
- I checked "enable quick secondary right click as return key"
- I set SHORTCUTMENU to "0" (zero)
- I re-checked "enable quick secondary right click as return key"
...but a right click still brings up the cursed shortcut menu 😞
Hi all - thanks for the info about switching off the shortcut menu - that worked for me too.
Only thing that is still bothering me is the list of drawing command options that drops down when I enter a keyboard shortcut (unless I press enter very quickly). Someone suggested trying AUTOCOMPLETE and setting it to '0' but that doesn't seem to have any effect.
Any ideas gratefully received!
I tried all the solutions and none of them worked for me. What did work for me, was open my acad.dwt, making the changes to it, saving it, then opening my drawings. That seems to work and "stick" to where I'm not having to constantly reset the right click to enter and repeat last command.

Having this same problem with AutoCAD 2020. Reviewed all of my previous settings in user preferences and they are the same. There's not an option in this version to "Enable quick secondary click as return key". I too want to type a short command, hit third button on mouse to "enter" command and have no shortcut menu appear. For some reason the short key (ie 'L' for line) isn't recognized when using my third button - even though the third button is selected as ENTER in the user preferences. The command line with keyboard entry is operating as it should with short keys.

Hi Amanda,
>>>>>There's not an option in this version to "Enable quick secondary click as return key".
It is still there in AutoCAD 2020 Preferences:
>>>>I too want to type a short command, hit third button on mouse to "enter" command and have no shortcut
>>>>menu appear. For some reason the short key (ie 'L' for line) isn't recognized when using my third button
Just checked on my side: with "Enable quick secondary click as return key" I am able to start LINE command if I type L, then right-click.
What settings do you have for SHORTCUTMENU System Variable?
my preference window looks nothing like the one you've attached?? Im under AutoCAD 2020 options / user preferences / right click customization. I see no window with AutoCAD application ??
SHORTCUTMENU is set to 0
>>>>my preference window looks nothing like the one you've attached??
That is because you are using AutoCAD for Windows (and you asked your question on AutoCAD for Mac Forum)
But, anyway.
In AC for Windows you can adjust right-click settings here:
With settings I showed on my screenshot SHORTCUTMENU should be 27.
And you should be able to use right-click as Enter to start LINE command.
APOLOGIES! I just found a thread that had the exact problem and didn't realize I was on a Mac Forum.
I appreciate your assistance and have made the adjustments as you've noted, but it's still not working. The command line continues to state "unknown command". When I use the keyboard for 'L' and 'enter' on keyboard it works as should. Im stumped.
I wrote in haste. Its not working.
The screenshot has my command line history. Ive tried both, Dynamic input on and off.
The screen shot was taken after I typed "l" (cursor not in command bar) then clicked third mouse button. The menu pops up to left to prompt command. I dont want the menu, I want to click and proceed with command.
The last workflow item in command bar is when I type "l", then clock thrid button as enter. Its not recognized.
