Open DWG 2018 File on Mac Running AutoCAD 2017

Hi,

Can someone please let me know how to open / manipulate / save a 2018 DWG on a Mac running AutoCAD 2017 (without buying a Windows box)?

I do not beleive that TrueView is compatible with OS X?

Thanks,

There is no free conversion tool for MacOS from Autodesk: you need to ask the file creator to knock the file down for you or install Windows/Trueview on your MAC.

Hello,

You can open the drawing in AutoCAD on the Web, and save it to a previous version from there.

https://client.autocad360.com/

Please let me know if this works for what you are trying to do.

Thanks for that Dean.

Just so I understand: I have the very latest updates for my AutoCAD 2017 software / OS X and yet I cannot open this file?

I have checked the Autodesk web-site and they do not appear to market AutoCAD 2018 for Mac's?

If this is the case then it is extremely poor service and I now have to undergo the embarrassment of asking the file creator to down grade the DWG!!

Come on Autodesk give Mac users a chance ...... there is a big OS X market out there!!

AutoCAD 2018 for MAC has not been released yet, it's on a fall/winter release cycle where the world of Windows is on a spring release cycle.

It's been like that since the dawn of the Mac versions.

For most of us users in business with project teams outside of our office, we know to always save down to help each other out. Sometimes we also avoid upgrading to format-changing versions of AutoCAD until most of us have caught up as well.

See tip from an Autodesk team member that posted after I did: it appears the web-based AutoCAD-ish variant might help you out as a fix. Good to know.

Hi Mallika,

The file upload seems to fail ...... tried fire fox, chrome and safari with 2018 dwg and 2017 (2013) dwg?

Did you log-in to AutoCAD360 and then try to upload the file from this page https://client.autocad360.com/#/filemanager.html

What error message if any did you get?

Hi Dave,

I just tried to upload 2018 DWG file to AutoCAD 360 (WEB) and convert it to 2010 version - everything works fine.
I used Safari browser.

Hi Dave,

Do you have externally referenced files attached to the main drawing you are trying to upload?
Are you trying to upload only main drawing? Or you are trying to upload several files at once, including Xrefs?

BTW, why you cannot ask the person who sent you DWG files to save them in earlier DWG vformat? For example in 2013 DWG format, then you will be able to open them on Mac.
