Insert Google sheet data AND Collect data from blocks to an extern sheet document.

Dear forum members.
I have the following problems that I would like to present to you:
1) I want to import a data sheet from Google Sheet into my AutoCAD 2021 drawing. This is not possible because I do not have Microsoft EXCEL installed on the Mac.
Therefore I turn my Sheet data into a PDF file, add this file to my AutoCAD drawing and it is just there.
No problem you would say.
Only if I plot the drawing now it prints everything except the inserted PDF file.
Of course I will first check whether the PDF file is on the wrong layer and therefore cannot be plotted.
This is not the case !
Let's try it in a different way:

If I insert the sheet data by selecting it in Google sheet and pasting it as text in AutoCAD, AutoCAD pastes all data from the columns together and you get 1 full text of data.
If you do this again per column of about 30 rows, the text in AutoCAD is not long enough and the lines no longer run evenly in the drawing.

2) I would like to make a (Dynamic) block of, for example, a sewer pipe and this data (about the entire drawing) should be placed in a Google sheet.
So if I draw 4 tubes of 6 meters with a certain diameter, they have to come back in the sheet. However, if I stretch a block to only 4 meters, this must also be indicated and adjusted in the sheet file.

Who can give me a guide on how I can handle this?

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

John

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi @jvgerwen-PlantLab,

If you are using AutoCAD for Mac, then you should be able to insert Excel table to your drawing (DATALINK) even if you don't have Excel on your Mac.

>>>>>>Only if I plot the drawing now it prints everything except the inserted PDF file.
Verify that PDF underlay inserted on printable Layer.

About 2-nd question - if you are using AutoCAD for Mac, I'm afraid it is not possible.

Hello Maxim Kanaev,

Thanks for your quick response, i'm happy with it :cara_guiñando_un_ojo:.

I tried your proposal:
1) I make an Excel file from my Sheet data.
I can insert this Data sheet via DATALINK into AutoCAD 2021 for MAC. So that works without AutoCAD nagging you to install Microsoft Excel.
Foto 26-11-2020 om 08.58.jpeg

I save the drawing and open it again with AutoCAD WINDOWS.
(If you want to remove the datalink within AutoCAD WINDOWS, that will not work!)
Also not working with the option:
     A) rename or remove the linked .dxe files
     B) copy / paste this:
      (dictremove (namedobjdict) "ACAD_DATALINK") [/ color]
     in the commandline, ENTER
     C) save and close the drawing, reload drawing
This has to go through the AutoCAD MAC version because you can simply remove it there.

In any AutoCAD version, you will get an error on this Data link after you save it!

Then I am faced with the fact that the data in the sheet is displayed too small.
Foto 26-11-2020 om 09.35.jpeg
If you select the sheet table, you cannot edit any text, if you select a cell in this table, you may edit the text in size, but this is not immediately possible for all data in it.
Anyone have a solution for this?

2) I can use both AutoCAD 2021 versions, both the WINDOWS and MAC version.
So if you have a solution how to
make a (Dynamic) block of, for example, a sewer pipe and this data (about the entire drawing) should be placed in a Google sheet I like to hear it.

So if I draw 4 tubes of 6 meters with a certain diameter, they have to come back in the sheet. However, if I stretch a block to only 4 meters, this must also be indicated and adjusted in the sheet file.

Thanks in advance.

Answer to my own question::cara_que_sonríe_con_ojos_sonrientes:

Select the cell in the table at the bottom left of your screen.

Hold down the SHIFT button and then select the diagonally opposite cell within the table.

You can now change the text height by properties.

Hi @jvgerwen-PlantLab

1/

>>>>>In any AutoCAD version, you will get an error on this Data link after you save it!

That is because you used incorrect AutoLISP statement to remove Data Link.

It should be:

(dictremove (namedobjdict) "ACAD_DATALINK")

but not "  (dictremove (namedobjdict) "ACAD_DATALINK") [/ color]"

2/

>>>>>So if you have a solution how to make a (Dynamic) block of, for example, a sewer pipe and this data (about the entire drawing) should be placed in a Google sheet I like to hear it.

At first I have to mention that in order to be able to update Excel document from AutoCAD, you need to have Excel installed on your Windows machine, because you need to use Data Link feature.

At the same time it is possible to create new table in AutoCAD each time you change Dynamic blocks parameters (tube length) and then export this AutoCAD table to spreadsheet.

Look at these articles:

- the first one uses Data link feature:

https://thecadgeek.com/blog/linking-excel-and-autocad-with-data-links/

- the second one uses Data extraction feature:

https://autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/2010/03/autocad-tip---reference-a-block-count-in-a-fiel...

You may also ask your question about linking Dynamic blocks information with external spreadsheet on AutoCAD Forum.

Hi Maxim_K,

Thank you very much for your answer.

You know more about it than I do :cara_que_ríe_con_la_boca_abierta_y_los_ojos_sonrientes:
1) But I don't get an error message, in my opinion, because the link has been deleted but because AutoCAD just doesn't understand the link, the data is normaly listed as a table in my drawing!
2) I'll take a look at the articles/links you write:

A:  - the first one uses Data link feature:

https://thecadgeek.com/blog/linking-excel-and-autocad-with-data-links/

I can't use it because I don't have Microsoft Excel, only Google Sheets.
B: - the second one uses Data extraction feature:

https://autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/2010/03/autocad-tip---reference-a-block-count-in-a-fiel...

I come back to this item if its works :cara_que_sonríe_con_ojos_sonrientes:

Thanks in advance.

Have a nice weekend.
John

Being a Data Analyst and Excel Spreadsheet Consultant my suggestion is you can use block attribute data extraction, it allows you the ability to extract attribute information from blocks or objects into a table object or CSV file for use in another application like google docs. The data extraction wizard is the most efficient way to extract attribute information. It can also be used to extract property values that are associated with the other types of geometry defined in a drawing along with general information about a drawing file. That's what is currently offered in AutoCAD, let me know if this seems like what you were looking for or you were just making a suggestion.

Is this intended to navigate any features of Civil 3D? This would be much clearer if it called out specific functions that can be made in the Civil 3D application. Thank you.
