Dimension lines strange behaviour.

Hello everyone, I am facing strange behaviour from the dimensions command. I have the same dimension style set on two seperate files. To best convey the issue review the attached images. 

In image one the dimensions are behaving as i would like the to: i select the top of the linear line and drag down the dimension line to the center of the linear line and the dimension line aligns vertically to the center point. 

In image two the dimensions are behaving strongly: i select the top of the linear line and drag down the dimension line to the center of the linear line and the dimension line appears to be aligning at an angle. 

This dimension line stretching at an angle and not perpendicularly is an issue if i attempt to do anything with the dimensions in that file. 

Ortho mode is turned on. 

Any clues as to what may be causing this ?

If I understand your description correctly, I believe that when you look at the properties of the Dimension in the 1st drawing, you will see "Rotated dimension" and in the 2-nd drawing it will be "Aligned dimension".
This should explain difference in Dimension behavior when you try to edit it with grips.

Hello @maxim_k sounds like that describes the problem. I am unable to locate the properties section that shows aligned vs rotated dimensions, could you direct me towards it ? 

I have attached an MP4 of a screencast displaying the behaviour in the two files in hopes it will help you determine what the cause might be.

Sorry, I thought you are trying to edit existing dimensions.

So rotated vs aligned doesn't apply to your case.

Can you attach both drawings (or part of them) - I'll take a look.

In which drawing do you have problem with dimensions?
On my side in both drawings dimensions behaves the same way (correctly) in both drawings.

The problem is on the one labelled Metric, that is the one that displays the angular dimension lines extensions in the video.  I checked some settings to make sure everything was set the same initially but perhaps it is a software setting on one file ?

The file imperial file was the original template the second file labelled "Metric" was the second created version. Using the original i changed the -DWG setting and altered the dimension styles to have new conversion factors for the alternative units accordingly. Other than that i have not changed any settings i could attribute to the difference in behaviour. If that helps!

OK, in 2019 version I can reproduce this issue. At first I opened your drawings in 2018 version and was not able to reproduce the problem in METRIC drawing.
Well, looks like there is a bug in 2019 version: when current coordinate system is not WCS (World coordinate system), but some other UCS (like you have in METRIC drawing - look at view cube - you will see Unnamed instead of WCS) dimensions start to behave as you see with ortho mode ON.
If you will switch from UCS to WCS in METRIC drawing, dimensions will behave as they should.
To switch to WCS, use UCS command and hit Return when AutoCAD will ask for origin point:

Command: UCS
Current ucs name: *NO NAME*
Specify origin of UCS or [Face/NAmed/OBject/Previous/View/World/X/Y/Z/ZAxis] <World>: <-Hit Return here

Here though the properties and  dimension style are same, the dimensions are shown different. Could you please tell me what might be the problem here?

Hi Prarak,

If dimensions has the same style, but looks different - dim text in your case as I understand, then check if dimension with different text height was edited (champed) in Properties palette.
And more, there is a question: Are you using annotative Dimension Style?

Actually I'm concerned about the length, the value seems to be way more different compared to one another.

And how can I remove the annotative dimension if it is the cause for different values of same length.

[I've already reset the scale list that appears using command : scalelistedit ]

If you about the length, then select dimension and look at dimension "Text override" in "Text" section or at "Dim scale linear" in "Primary units" section on Properties palette.
