Hi

Hope you can help. I am about to upgrade my MacBook air as it is 8 years old and crashes. I am told the new MacBook air comes with the new M1 chip and that I can run autocad lt 2021 using something called rosetta 2? Please can you advise me if this is true and it there are any performance issues i should know about before spending money on a new computer?

I do most of my cad work on an iMac but the air is very good for when i am away from the office.

Thanks!

Rob

Hi Rob,

I had an issue with M1 until I made the latest upgrade and now it runs perfectly.

Hi @stefanocibelli ,

AutoCAD for Mac 2021 and 2022 are supported on Apple Mac models with M series chip under Rosetta 2 mode.

Hi

I updated to latest autocad for mac 2022 on my new MacBook air with M1 chip and when `i try to open cad get a message saying "license checkout timed out. What do you want to do?"

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? I only have one license but I had logged out of my autodesk account on my iMac which I also use.

Thanks

Rob

Hi Robert,

Please look at this AKN page:

And try the solutions described there.

Hi @maxim_k

Is there any timeline for native AutCAD compatibility for the M1 chip?   i.e. when it will no longer have to run through rosetta?

The possibility of this chip is really exciting, but not when it requires a translator that basically matches the Intel chipset.

Thanks.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi @abitofcad ,

Autodesk never reveals its plans, so the timing of the release of AutoCAD for Mac with native support for the M1 chip is unknown....

I have noticed the same issue with License time timeout every time after MacOS is updated.
The problem solves by itself just after simple Restart of machine.

Yes I noticed the same with a recent MacOS upgrade, the License time out prompt appeared while using AutoCad LT 2021. As I downloaded a couple of AutoCad LT service packs, as advised in a different forum, the AutoCad program was restarted but frustratingly still went through the same process of shutting down of the program.

It was only after I had restarted the Mac Mini it now seems to have been sorted in avoiding the same issue.

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to know, whether Autocad  for Mac runs as fluently and smoothly on M1 Mac as like on Intel Macs?

Your answer and experience would be a great help, as I am planning to buy new MacBook Pro, which is days away from the release.

Thanks…

Yes, for the moment it runs on M1 Mac with macOS Big Sur the same way as on Intel Macs.

But keep in mind that new 2021 M1 Macs will sheep with new macOS Monterey.

Despite the fact that the developers will prepare an update for AutoCAD that will ensure compatibility with the new system, no one can know for sure how the system update will affect AutoCAD.

Hello Maxim,

Thanks a lot for a quick reply. Glad to hear that the current AUTOCAD Version is running as smoothly on M1 Mac as on Intel Macs.

I will wait to buy the new MacBook Pro, till all the compatability  issues get over for MacOS Monterey, as well as with new M series chip.

Thanks once again…
