Black box appearing on xref images when plotting

Hi All,

I am running AutoCAD LT 2016 for mac (Version M.48.M.617 Update 3) on macOS Sierra (10.12). I upgraded my MacBook Pro's OS to Sierra when it was released recently. Since updating when I plot layouts in paper space any raster images that were attached to XREF files appear as black boxes. The issue does not occur when printing the same raster images from the reference file in model space.

I've attached an image capturing the issue, a screen shot of my page setup, print dialog, and also pasted below the Plot and Publish Job Complete dialog.

Hi @Anonymous,

Have you tried Publish instead of Plot or export? The Publish command worked great for me.

What version of AutoCAD are you using?

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

Hi @Anonymous,

Have you applied the updates from here?

Unfortunately I don't have 2015 installed on my home Mac.

Are you interested in trying the Public Beta of AutoCAD for Mac 2017? I know it worked for me there as well as in 2016.

Can you send me some sample files so I can see if they publish properly on my Mac with Sierra?

No beta 2017 did not work. Images still not showing up and white lines turned out super chunky.

Running Sierra / AutoCAD for Mac 2016/ having the same problems as everyone.

I cannot use the Publish command. I have multiple sheets set up in paper space which means we cannot use the Publish command.

please fix this bug ASAP. I am sure it disrupts workflow of A LOT of users.

Trying 2017 naboo beta.

Using the print command.

Besides the raster images turned black, all the white (#7) turned chunky. See screen shot.

The raster image plotting issue on Sierra is under research.

Hi @Anonymous,

The issue you reported is different. I cannot reproduce it on my side. Could you please send me a sample drawing and the plotstyle used for the plotting?

My email: wei.ma@autodesk.com

And please note that it is not appropriate to discuss behavior of Naboo Beta in this forum. You can post the findings in Naboo Beta forum:

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you share your sheet set and drawings? I am able to publish to PDF just fine with AutoCAD 2016 on Sierra as shown in the screencast.

Thanks very strange, I, myself along with many other users would only see black boxes to the extent of the reference within the PDF. I don't have any evidence anymore as I deleted it all. I had to restore my mac to a previous time where I had El Capitan for this to work. I had to do this as soon as possible as I was losing too much money through my business in wasted time. (I actually lost more money than 1 years Autocad LT subscription)

Also, many mac users (along with myself) don't go through the publish process to plot PDFs in Autocad. We simple use cmd+P (print) which is far easier to create a 1 page PDF. I would only use publish for multi page PDFs

Hi @Anonymous,

I am sorry that you have had so much difficulty in getting this to behave. Obviously your software was developed prior to Sierra and it is not yet a supported configuration. It would have been nice to see what was happening on your Mac compared to mine but I guess I will have to wait for another case that displays this issue.

The Publish method was only suggested as a workaround until the defect can be addressed.

I am glad that you are back up and running but as a suggestion, make sure that on the next upgrade, that the configuration has been tested and is supported prior to installing. I like to be on the bleeding edge but I too have to be careful not to impact my environment too much.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi @Anonymous,

Yes, attaching the cad file along with the corresponding image files would help to nail down the exact cause of this issue. Please share if you can. (Strip out anything proprietary.)

Thanks for suggestion John.vellek. I did actually check for updates on autocad LT for mac right after I installed sierra.
One would assume that when you purchase a licence for software named "AutoCAD LT 2016 for mac" that all aspects of the software would be compatible with 2016 Mac OS versions. Clearly not. I understand if there was an unknown glitch in the initial day after sierra was launched, but for this to not have been sorted out by your developers even after a couple of weeks is ridiculous, especially when this software is relied upon by many businesses.

Hi @Anonymous,

Bu updates, I mean Operating System upgrades/updates.  Windows users too have been feeling similar pain with the Windows 10 Anniversary update.  Software developed before a new operating system is developed can only be designed and built for the existing operating system.

I know the development team is examining the impact of the newer operating system.

Thanks for your contribution.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks so much for the files. It is interesting that I can attach the images to a new document and publish them without issue but when I try to print your document to PDF I can duplicate what you are seeing.

I will have to do some more investigation on this issue and will see if I can come up with any other alternatives. for you.

Thanks for that. I don't use the Publish command. I use the PRINT command and that's when the raster image issue comes up.

I have installed the service pack updates.

Either way I am interested in getting my Autocad 2015 working not upgrading to 2017.
