AutoCAD Mac 2015 blank screen on Quit

Hi all

I am running AutoCAD Mac 2015 on a Macbook Pro 15" Retina (late 2013) on Yosemite 10.10.4.

When quitting AutoCAD, the entire screen goes black and the only way to regain control is to power off and then on again.

Interestingly, the same thing occurs when quitting Google Earth.

I had the same problem when running the same apps on Mavericks, so I upgraded to Yosemite in the hope the problem would go away.

Has anyone else had similar issues?  I know there are lots of discussions regarding weird graphics behaviour on the Macbook Retina models, but thought I'd test the water out here to see what you guys have experienced before I replace this Macbook Pro.

Hi David,

I think there could be two problems: hardware related and software related.
If you upgraded to Yosemite from existing Mavericks OS, than you can try fresh Yosemite installation with AutoCAD only. If you will have the same problem, than there could be hardware problem.

When I upgraded to Yosemite I did a fresh reinstall. Completely wiped the drive clean and started again.

I think it's a hardware issue. Apple haven't officially recognised the problem, however it seems it's well known the MacBook Pro Retina (late 2013) has serious problems with graphics.

Which model do you own?
I'm asking because on my Macbook Pro Retina 15 (late 2013) with dedicated graphics card I don't have such issues.

It's a 2.6ghz i7 Maxim.
16gb ram

Bought straight from Apple (no 3rd party ram etc). I think it's a hardware issue. Waiting for El Capitan to be released then I'll get a new model I think.

It appears the same as mine.
Which settings do you have in power saving pane of the OS X System Preferences? I mean does the integrated graphics card is default? I'm asking because even it it is active by default, when you launch AutoCAD it should switch to dedicated card, than when you quit it should switch back to integrated.
Could be the second switch case the glitch?

I've now turned off automatic graphics switching to see if that helps.

Hello David,

To use AutoCAD for Mac 2015 on Yosemite, you need to install Updates. Did you install Update 1 & 2??

Yes, all updates have been applied. The version number is showing as J 51
M 313.

No further updates are currently available.

I have disabled automatic graphics switching and am testing to see if that
is the cause of the issue.

OK.  So I have been running AutoCAD 2015 for Mac without automatic graphics switching enabled.  This has (for now) fixed the problem.

Solution is: Turn off automatic graphics switching!
